Is composite decking as good as real timber?

Hello!

Hi, we’re putting a new deck onto the back of our house soon and one of our friends suggested we look at Modwood or some of those other recycled decking products (Coen, NewTech etc).

It is more expensive but apparently once it’s down, you don’t need to touch it again.

Has anyone else used composite decking and would you recommend it?

I would recommend it for its low maintenance qualities. It can get a bit slippery if you’re in an area that gets frosts. We’re in Tassie and need to be really careful after a frost.

Less maintenance over real timber, so worth it if you have a big area.

My sister in law has this and loves it. It’s a lot less work than timber to keep it looking good.

Sorry we used Jarrah decking and 20 years on its still fantastic but we do have to give it some oil every couple of years. Australia’s ultraviolet light and sunshine reeks havoc with most things that are outdoors.

Don’t own one.Hope it stays looking newer for longer, with reduced need for repairs or renovations.

We used a composite decking material from Bunnings (I think it was Ekodeck). It’s the best move we made in regards to the decking because it doesn’t require any maintenance. It looks just as good today as it did when we had it laid over two years ago.
