  • No not necessary. I use white vinegar instead. It not only softens your wash, it keep your washing machine clean as well.

  • Definitely not necessary. I only use it on wollens and delicates.

  • I don’t believe it is as l rarely use it and my clothes are soft.

  • I never use it, I find it a waste of money, makes the washing machine get sticky and I get migraines from a lot of scented stuff so we steer well clear of it

  • I sometimes use it especially when washing towels but find that sometimes it stains my clothes.

  • I love the smell, so use it on our bedding but with the towels, I put them in the dryer for five minutes when they are almost dry to make them soft, so don’t bother

  • It makes it smell nice but that is about it…. It also is known and reported to stuff your machine

  • I don’t think it is. Apart from a subtle fragnrance I don’t think it makes a difference really

  • I use fabric softener in all my washes. Makes the clothing soft and smell nice

  • I use it in every wash but i dont believe its absolutely necessary, I just like the fact that everything smells so nice and towels are super soft. I hate scratchy towels.

  • i don’t but i think if you have stuff that you don’t want too wrinkled or nice smelling towels then use it

  • I’ve never used it, but then I’m not terribly domestic either.

  • No, I only add it to towels, sheets and woollens

  • Shoni, If your washing is stiff there is a good chance that the detergent is being completely rinsed out of your washing. You could be using more than you need. I find you often don’t need as much as the instructions on the packet states. Also using too much may not get your clothes any cleaner anyway.

  • No not at all.

  • personally no, and it seems a lot of others say this also

  • i don’t know if it softens much but it makes it smell nice

  • In short no, not every wash and not at all really. Depends on what powder/wash you are using too.

  • I don’t think it is,

  • You can just as good an effect by using a tablespoon of white vinegar in the final rinse cycle. Clothes will be soft, and no smell of vinegar either. I’ve been told by a washing machine repairman that using fabric softener causes more damage to washing machines than it’s worth.
