Hello!

I have my main job which I don’t really have to work as much as I’m partnered with my husband with his dream job. I’m thinking of finding another job for my independence, own pay to put it towards a goal as well as meeting new people. I’m unsure how many hours I should be working so I’m not having to pay tax in the end. I get paid good money which I’ve put most towards mortage but stil like some savings for holidays with my children. Should I either budget properly if I stay with 1 job or can grab another job and not having to pay tax?

  • I wouldn’t go for a second job if I had a family it’s exhausting

  • You get taxed more it’s not worth it in my eyes

  • yeah a lot to consider but do what will be best for you and yours! do your research and good luck!

  • Regardless of the number of jobs, you will still need to budget, otherwise it will disappear! ;)

  • Everyone in a job – earning an income pays tax. Are you asking about extra tax? Check the ATO site and get information about tax rates – may help?

  • Is paying tax the biggest problem here? You are lucky to have a stable family that you are able to support AND you are lucky to have a job at all in the current economic climate!

  • You might have to get some financial advice to find out if it’s worth taking on a second job.

  • The killer of a second job is the tax! It’s all good while you have 2 incomes, but come tax time, you are penalised. If you list your biggest earning job as your first job, that will limit your tax, but don’t expect to get much back and don’t be too shocked if you end up with a tax bill
