Hello!

Is my 18 month old thirsty? he is water crazy – he asks for drinks constantly, and goes after anything that is water related. I’ve found him drinking from the toilet (eww i know!! that was the last time the door was left open!!) and he even climbs up onto the sink and steals the dish cloth to suck on it, the same with flannels in the bath. Is this a common thing or something I should be getting checked out? Thanks

  • Get him to a Dr as soon as possible for tests. First thing that springs to mind is diabetes. But there are other possibilities. Great that he like water so much :)

  • Seems a bit weird, kids drink a lot but the extremes of drinking from the toilet and dish cloth seem a bit weird. Good luck.

  • I would take him to the doctor and get a check up. my sister was like that when she was a baby, constantly thirsty and when my mum went to get her checked out it turned out to be juvenile diabetes.

  • hope you found out what was going on?

  • If you’re even slightly concerned that it’s unusual, get him checked out at the gp. They’ll soon workout if it’s a medical issue or a behavioural one.

  • he maybe diabetic so get him checked out soon.

  • I would be getting him checked, just if only for peace of mind

  • he could just love water. leave some in a sippy cup for him

  • Is he still the same now ?

  • How is he going now?

  • it could be a sign of diabetes so best to get it checked

  • i would get him checked :)

  • how did you go with it?

  • I’d definitely get it checked

  • Hope you managed to work out what the problem was.

  • Is he still thirsty? :)

  • Did you find out what the problem was?

  • What was the solution? Was it just a phase?

  • Might not be anything – if you are worried I would see the doctor.

  • Oh dear the toilet. A visit to the dr to check maybe, in the meantime make sure he always has a cup or bottle with water in it nearby him so that can be his first option when he is thirsty.
