Hello!

Hello MoMs. My little girl is 17 months old and we have stopped putting her in sleeping bags. Now the nights are cooling down I am worried about her getting cold. We dress her in a short sleeved bodysuit (so her back stays covered) with warm p.j’s and she has her favourite fleecy blanket. But every night we check on her and she is laying on top of the blanket. We don’t want her in sleeping bags, so how do we keep her warm when she moves around the cot and doesn’t stay under the blanket? Is my toddler sleeping warm enough? Thanks in advance. Sam.

  • Hi ive had 3 kids and in my experience even as toddlers they will wake of too cold or hot and let you know. Read your toddlers messages as each one will.have different tolerances.

  • Cool! This was interesting reading the answers to this!

  • I’ve learned if my toddler is too hot he kicks his blanket off, I just make sure he is dressed warm enough with a body suit, singlet and flannelette pjs.

  • basically the rule is that you dress them in as many layers as you plus one

but when they kick blankets off, also add socks, mittens etc

  • Long sleeved PJs are good. I’ve kept mine in a thin sleeping bag to make sure they have something covering.

  • if they aren’t they will wake up and you will know they are cold

  • get her long sleeved flanny pjs that way if she is uncovered it is ok

  • the sleeping bags are great

  • maybe a thicker top ?

  • Hope you managed to find the answer you were looking for.

  • Make sure that they are wearing warm clothing

  • How did you go with your toddler sleeping warm enough

  • I hope you managed to sort things out. I agree that kids will let you know if they aren’t warm enough.

  • Make sure her feet are warm, with socks.

  • I’m sure she’d be waking up if she was cold

  • As long as shes dressed warmly, I wouldn’t worry too much about the blanket being kicked off

  • My daughter constantly rolls out of her blankets and ends up cold :(
I found the best solution was to put a panel heater in her room with a digital temperature control on it… She sleeps a lot better through the night now :)

  • Get a woolen underlay on her cot this makes a huge difference I couldn’t live without mine.

  • I figure the child will sort itself out in the night if they are cold. If not they will cry and u can tuck them in again

  • My son doesn’t sleep under his blankets either, no matter what the weather. We have just resorted to keeping the heater on overnight. We have ducted heating so this is not really a safety concern for us.
