Forum Is nail polish remover useful for some cleaning jobs?

I bought a large bottle of nail polish remover that contains acetone. My friend who is a nail technician said you only have to use it once and it can make your nails as weak as tissue paper. This happened to me, when she tried to file or shape them they all splintered. Nail polish remover with no acetone is fine on the other hand and does no harm. So I am stuck with a 400ml bottle of this acetone cocktail and dont want to throw it away!

Is nail polish remover useful for some cleaning jobs?

  • I find it useful to remove sticke residues left behind after removing labels from jars eg. It’s also good for removing super glue. Not stuff you would be doing too often, but a couple of options for it

  • That is terrible news when acetone -free removers were not on sale at the stores. If that is the case, that may explain why my nails are brittle and using acetone may have contributed further to the vulnerability of our nails. Not good news at all.

  • yes cleaning off paint from the plastics

  • YES!!! especially adhesives and varnish or paint.
