I have a 5yr old with Down Syndrome who’s an experienced escapist. We have a Houdini strap facing back to front and a Buckle Guard Cover over the buckle.

Is he actually undoing it? Try putting some scratchy Velcro on the button to discourage him.

Maybe a ribbon tied to the straps across his chest area. This is a tough one. That’s about all I can suggest, hope you get a solution, for bubs safety

I was in the same situation as you with my youngest and I researched and from what I gathered it was not recommended to use anything because if you had an accident emergency personnel would not be able to work out how to take your child out. Having said that I came across the houdini strap and made the decision to try it but I did have that safety concern hanging over me. I bought the strap and it lasted a week before he worked out how to get out of it! I think kids are too smart sometimes. He stopped getting out of his chair not long after so I didn’t have to worry so perhaps that helped the process.

You can buy a Houdini. My bub hates it, and screamed a fair bit in the beginning, but has since calmed down. I’d rather tears than hurt in an accident.

Definitely try the Houdini strap.

If you lock the buckle how is anybody going ot be able to rescue your child in the event of an accident or other geniune emergency?? short of having something sharp to cut the webbing of the harness straps!!! Yes, I have seen it done, but you have to have the right gadget and the child not be moving at all. That is why all release buttons on the harness are standard operation.

There is a little thing that you can get from toys are us i think. Its like a little v with press studs that go around the straps and creates a barrier so it stops arms from being able to get out

I have heard some mums talk of a Houdini strap and I know in extreme cases you can get a lock for the buckle itself which requires a key to open.

Very frustrating you can once he’s locked in pull the strap very tight so he can’t pull his arms out and give him a stern talking too

A friend of mine has a thing called a houdini strap. it clips to the two straps so they cant be pulled apart to get your arms out. I think (and Im not sure exactly0 she got it at big w or target or something like that but baby shops should defs have them
