Kitchen appliances - Mouths of Mums

Hello!

Our kitchen is small and we have lots of appliances taking up space on our bench. Unfortunately they are all used pretty regularly so I can’t pack them away and get them out everyday but I’m looking at what appliances could be replaced with one machine instead of two. My question to help me is what appliance’s do you have on your kitchen bench?

  • We have our bottle steriliser, toaster and air fryer on the bench, and then we rotate between our other appliances that we store in the pantry. We don’t have a lot of bench space and only 2 PowerPoints, we also have our coffee machine and water purifier machine sitting on top of our wine fridge in a separate location which also freed up some space.

  • I have very little kitchen space so I have my microwave, toaster and kettle on my bench. Everything else I use is in cupboards or on a shelf. I’d love a bigger kitchen but the only way that’ll happen is if I win lotto. One item that could be one is an oven air fryer. They bake, toast, steam and fry. Other than that I can’t think of what else can be combined.

  • I too have way too many bench top appliances! I figure my next home will have a Butlers Pantry with a power point for each appliance and shelves to swap the appliances out. I do like to meal prep and cook using the Mixmaster and Oven and Microwave and the Rice-Cooker all in one day. Having a big family still living at home I will keep all appliances but when I need to down-size I will look at replacing some appliances with a Thermocook or something similar for just Hubby and I.

  • Ellen I love the idea of having an ice maker! What kind do you have? Would you buy it again?

  • We have Way too many appliances on ours! Toaster, air frier. Kettle, coffee maker, rice cooker, microwave. I’d love to have less and have that minimalist look but we use it all daily. I have seen they have microwaves down which double as air fryer and they can toast bread so definitely a good space saving option

  • Good one ChiWren ! Of course, we have the microwave too, I totally forgot about that one. But it’s not on our bench, we have a space above the oven that’s specially build for the microwave. We too have the air fryer, bigger blender, toastie maker, waffle maker, slow cooker etc in the cupboard.
When we wouldn’t have enough cupboard and or bench space, I think I would look into buying a separate kitchen cupboard to solve that problem.

  • I also have a ninja food processor/smoothie maker thing. It was handy with purees for beginner solids, but a hassle to clean. Not a fave of mine

  • The only appliances that live on the bench are my coffee machine and microwave. Everything else comes and goes as needed. They are the rice/multi cooker, toaster, kettle, hand processor, air fryer. I’m lucky to have a lot of storage in the kitchen and much prefer the look of empty bench space.
What appliances do you have and frequently use?

  • My everyday items; coffee machine (GOAT haha), toaster, kettle are on the bench. Everything else is in a drawer or cupboard. I used my Ninja everyday to do my morning protein shake but it doesn’t need to live on the bench so it’s in the drawer too. I would recommend Ninja to answer your question about an appliance that does multiple things – the food processor is excellent as is the blender, can’t go wrong with either. Can do soups, chopping, sauces, smoothies etc.

  • I don’t have that many appliances on the kitchen bench, because I still like to have plenty of space for food prepping. I have the water kettle, a stick blender, a coffee grinder, a coffee maker, a bread toaster and an ice cube maker on the kitchen bench. The rest of the appliances are in the kitchen cupboard, straight under the kitchen bench.
