Lego storage - Mouths of Mums

Hello!

How do you store your Lego? Do you buy containers and keep them in individual sets? (Like puzzles to be done and undone) do you build them and keep them built? Do you store all your Lego in one big container and mix the sets?

  • I like the idea of the tablecloth what some of you are suggesting. Another good point is that not all lego is the same size and that it can be hard to find the pieces to make a set again. It’s handy to keep the different sets with instructions separated in clip containers indeed.

  • My grandson is Lego mad and his mother has a large tablecloth with all the Lego in it and ties it off. That way you just put down the tablecloth and there’s not Lego all over the place. I had never thought of this and would have put them in a container of some kind but this is a much better idea.

  • I grew up with Lego all in one tub and we made whatever we wanted. Unfortunately I thought I could do the same with the sets (mix them together and use different pieces for different builds) I thought I could keep the instructions and get the best of both worlds. I quickly realised the Lego peices are much much smaller than when I was a kid and it’s impossible to build a set thats mixed in with so many others! From that day forward I kept sets in seperate containers. So we have both a big mixed box and a few sets kept separately

  • Best LEGO storage is a clip container lined with a Small to medium table cloth (or piece of material) tied with a shoelace or string at the top…..so it can be pulled out & laid out on the table or floor, then done playing just gather the 4 corners & tie up to return to the container…..Easy!

  • I bought a under the bed roll-away clear container that all the Lego pieces were put in after Lego play. We had a few smaller clear containers that were specifically for a certain build project to be undone and rebuilt when they felt like it so pieces were not mixed up with other projects. We sold on projects the kids were no longer interested. We kept the instruction books within the clear plastic container so we could see what way to be built.

  • When my kids were younger I would just have one massive large container on wheels and would keep the instructions with pictures in plastic sleeves. My youngest has Down Syndrome and we have some simple Lego for her that after making it, we store in the boxes. My now 21 year old son still buys himself Lego and after making it he keeps it on display (and keeps all boxes in a cupboard). I like it he still loves his Lego and jigsaws !

  • My toddler doesn’t conform to sets, it’s a block free for all 😆 for now at this age everything is Mixed into a tub with a lid and played with together. Any building instructions I keep in a drawer. Once he’s older and has interest in building particular sets I’ll keep it seperate.
