Hello!

Hi, I just wanted to know if anyone here has any secrets to cleaning tough stains on carpets. Any product that works wonders and leaves a good smell. I try to clean it on the spot but still stains are formed and its getting to the point that I can smell it, especially milk and juices. Any tips that can work wonders would be greatly appreciated.

  • I use a shower cleaner from coles. Can’t recall the name but it’s in a white bottle with a scrubbing brush attachment on the top. Does wonders

  • Not so much a tip for stains but for odours try sprinkling bicarb soda over the carpet before vacuuming. There are also no vac carpet foams that make the carpet smell nice. I love the vanilla scented one

  • I just saw this on Facebook – One Good Thing – http://www.onegoodthingbyjillee.com/2011/12/homemade-carpet-stain-removerno.html
I am yet to do this but here are the instructions –
“I filled an empty spray bottle with 1 part ammonia & 1 part HOT water, sprayed it LIBERALLY on the stain, laid the clean white towel on top of it and started ironing away! Within literally SECONDS…this is what the WHITE towel looked like.”

  • you probably need to get a professional in to help with the stains

  • we get a professional clean every now and then

  • you can hire carpet cleaners from Safeway, for a few hours or for 24 hours. I have always loved how clean they leave the carpets. I prefer the Britex one.

  • I think a professional clean to give you a clean slate is a good idea and I use a spot cleaner that is Bissell brand

  • The preen one is good though

  • My mum swears by bicarb soda :)great for odours too

  • I think once it gets into your carpet, you need to get it professionally cleaned to really have a better job done

  • thank you every 1. i had to wash the carpet, because there was milk and juices spilled all over so it was hopeless. but for after that i used windex and soda water too, really worked. thanks for such nice tips

  • Soda water neat straight on stain the mop up with a towel works wonders

  • I use windex and bicarbonate soda with warm water and usually does the trick.

  • Clear Windex or Window cleaner works really well! Spray a bit, don’t drench it, onto the stain, leave for a few minutes then clean it off with a damp sponge. It doesn’t have an overpowering smell, but it’s not the nicest scent either. But it does work…. Good luck!! :)

  • Dominant have a good cleaner. I also use disinfectant wipes and find they are great for getting stains out.

  • Invest in one of Shannon Lush’s books on cleaning – she has an answer for everything

  • baking soda made into a paste should help

  • I think it depends what your carpet is made out of as to whats best to use.

As far as smell is concerned there are many different fabric fresheners available from the supermarket.
If your carpet is that bad it might pay to get them professionally cleaned to start with though.

  • I’ve just discovered that hand sanitiser is the best stain remover I’ve ever used on those seemingly impossible stains — it all started when my husband came home with a big black pen mark on his tan coloured pants, after a quick google search a few days later (please don’t judge me for not doing the washing for a few days!) I rubbed some hand sanitiser over it (I just used my fingers) and there is absolutely no trace of pen on them now and no effect on the colour of his pants. I’ve used this on all sorts of things but admittedly, not carpet — I can’t see why it wouldn’t be effective on that too? Anyway for me it’s now my new favourite cleaning agent!!!

  • I use wool wash on carpet, it works really well and smells good
