My son did normal school from kinder to grade 10 and then did years 11 and 12 at home. I found his grades went through the roof on the subjects he struggled with at school. Which he needed to get into the army
We are struggling with this because my son has autism and is struggling to learn at school so we are doing some partial home schooling. I think being at school helps with social connections but I am finding he is slipping through the cracks in some areas.
It all depends on the child on how home schooling goes. If they aren’t motivated because you are teaching them, then maybe you should send them to school.
Unless really unavoidable, I wouldn’t be home schooling for the reason that a child will learn more at school rather than at home. At home, they will inevitably play up and refuse to take lessons seriously.
Make sure your child is involved in some type of team sport, rugby, netball, little athletics etc as this will help with developing their social skills. They do not have to be athletic, just being involved is the fun. At 5 our son didn’t appear interested in football just loved running around the field with his mates. Skills come later.
Personally, I will be sending my child to a regular school. I loved school as I was able to make friends, and being very shy, i needed that constant social contact for this. But every kid is different. If you have a motivated kid,and youre a motivated mum, then it might be worth a crack, though I would love to hear peoples reasonings for not wanting their children in the school system. The schools around here are small, close and community oriented, and I just love that my child will get to be a part of that.
I done home schooling myself as a child I didn’t find it helpful when in need of friends and stuff but I studied and got my work done all the time but I wouldn’t be doing it for my children
The main thing is to get as much support as possible from the home schooling association, meet other mums and dads doing the same thing for tips and trick. A routine is the main thing as much as possible and plan your week into sections at the beginning of the week so you know which direction you are working towards. Have a separate work area that is specially for school work (of course other areas can be used) but having a main desk creates a good work ethic.
