Hello!

My 3yr old and 12 month old girls follow me everywhere, even to the bathroom. I’ve just had my period return after child birth and am unsure how to talk about it with my girls as to why I wear a pad or tampon and not have my 3yr old attempt to mimic my actions, to understand i’m not hurt when she sees i’m bleeding – how do you approach this subject? Thanks

  • Complete honesty, especially with girls! Though she doesn’t need to see it if you don’t want them to.

  • Kids are inquisitive to say the least. You at this stage are centre of their world.I had sons and oldest used to follow me, would ask him to go get me something as I was on toilet, sometimes worked, then I would thank him for getting me something could not get while I was busy. Try this not only in toilet but other times in the day. Sometimes it is reassuring that you are not going to go away. Hope this helps Jeannie bliss

  • they follow mummy everywhere at that age,so did mine.i told them the truth as best as I thought they would ubderstand.they feel better if mummy,s o.k.if your not worried, nor will they be.

  • yeah shut the door lol

  • Close the door and ask them to wait until you come out.

  • I would close the door, but tell them mummy’s going to the toilet so they know you haven’t disappeared.

  • goodluck with this, I believe it is important to try and explain what is happening

  • What did you end up doing?

  • I hope you have found some helpful suggestions here.

  • I put tv on and close the door. Sometimes they should not see things!

  • I think most kids that age follow mummy to the toilet lol its something that can’t really be avoided unless you shut the door and let them cry. Or get them occupied with something then quickly duck away before they notice.

  • welcome to being a parent. It’s a perk LOL.

  • thats so adorable! A hard topic though, maybe 3/4 close the door?

  • That’s funny. They’d I like to copy everything

  • My boys follow me and they are 6 and 3 and they still do it. I just tell them to go out and wait for me. If its that time of the month I close the door.

  • My boys are prone to that (and I don’t know why, but all three cats always follow me to the loo without fail!). I just half close the door and lean around and keep talking to them and they’re none the wiser :)

  • my baby does it too and waits outside the toilet until i return,i feel it so cute.
live the moment, one day your kids will not follow you anywhere and you will miss it!

  • Try getting those Leapster learning pads it occupies my son for quite a while so I can clean the house up :) good luck

  • I hope my little one follows me around forever because I know that the older the get the less they need you. And literally not a day passes where you will wish you could snuggle your little darlin again like you used to when she was this young its just her personality and it will stop ;)

  • My daughter follows me. When its ‘that time’ I just close the dor and listen to her cry out and knock on the door for a few minutes. She is 20 months.
