Hello!

So my mum isn’t really into Christmas but we do Santa presents at her house and there’s a small stocking cakes Nana. Any ideas on small presents for an elderly lady who doesn’t really want for anything and cannot go out to use a voucher or the like.

  • I am a Nana and I can tell you all I ask for each year is a family photo. I love them. But if that’s not favourable for you, how about making something special for her? What’s her favourite sweets etc. Maybe you could make her some Xmas sweets or maybe a cake. My grandson gave me a Frameo last Xmas and it’s great. You put your photos in it and it runs like a video. Plus, you can change the photos as you like. I hope I’ve helped in some small way.

  • Sounds like my mum. She is 70 something and says she’s too old for Christmas now that her kids and grandkids are all grown up. My suggestion would be a Christmas fruit cake, a hairdresser voucher for a cut, wash and blow dry or a promise note of a lunch with her daughter….you! Hope this helps. All the best xx

  • Would a family photograph session work…or if there’s some nice photos that can be framed up or put into a photo book.
Another option was if she had any hobby related materials or gift cards that you could get her.
A nice scarf or throw blanket could also work. They are more common items that could be rotated.

  • Is she into books, perhaps you could look at getting her a nice book to read or a voucher to buy a book online or perhaps she plays word puzzles online, could you get a visa gift card that she can load and use at her own leisure. Otherwise a nice photo frame with a family photo in it could also be nice.

  • The older they get the harder it is. Take a look at her day and what she does. Magazines, puzzle books, warm socks or slippers, magnetic shopping lists. Maybe she still enjoys perfumes or can use handcreams. Hand made chocolates, biscuits or special treats of some sort always go down well.

  • Oh thats a lovely thing to do! Hmm definitely a hard one for older people as they generally dont need much or ask for much. Could there be something she could use? Whether it be a nice comfy blanket, warm socks, hand cream etc? Or even just a fake ‘voucher’ that offers you to spend a day with her or something

  • I would opt for food items that your mum might like such as biscuits, Christmas cake slices, pretzels, chocolates etc.

  • My mum always purchased her mum a pack of hankies (they are reusable tissues) it was just something for her generation that they would always have a hanky up thier sleeve or in their pocket. It’s quite sad they aren’t really used anymore. Another thing my mum gets is a nice scented hand cream or these pocket wipes which help cool you down when it’s hot. They smell lovely and are great to keep in the handbag when you are stuffy and need a refresh.

  • Small photo frames maybe, with photos of the grandkids. Small toiletry items that you know she’d use – maybe a slightly more luxurious version than she’d buy for herself? Small food treats might be good too. Small useful gadgets can be helpful – a glasses holder, for example, or a jar opener perhaps.

  • Like the previous commenter mentioned I’d definitely recommend photos of the grandkids. My mum isn’t a gift person but she absolutely loves when she gets a photo of the grandkids, bonus points if it’s all her grandkids in one photo. I usually organise photos to be taken with my sister and my mum adores them.

  • Maybe some cute piccies of the kids in a nice frame? If she likes magazines you could arrange a yearly subscription to be delivered to her home. Does she garden or have any particular hobbies or interests you could buy some new pieces of equipment for. It can be really tricky for those who don’t really need anything
