We’ve been scanning our groceries for a few years. Just part of our routine now. It does take time to scan every item, but the kids enjoy helping me find the barcodes and put everything away quicker. The rewards aren’t huge but they do add up, and it’s become our Christmas bonus to redeem our points. Works extremely well for us.

A friend of ours does it and has picked up a few overcharges as come up in the scanner and you can check them.

We’ve been on the Nielson scanning panel now for over 10 years. It’s tedious, but legit. Every time you shop, you scan every barcode AND enter the price. In the case of deli, meat, and produce you also sometimes enter extra information about the weight or volume. You don’t earn points according to how much you scan, instead you earn a set amount each month. You get bonuses for birthdays as well. The rewards catalogue is pretty good – you can redeem for vouchers or prizes and we tend to get around $100 per year. It’s a nice little bonus, and I use the excercise as a way to make sure I check every price on the reciept. I also find it heaps easier to do since I started online shopping and my reciept is sorted according to aisle.

I recently joined the Aztec Panel, very similar to the Nielsen one I guess. I need to scan my grocery and get points that I can then redeem for prizes. It takes some time to scan all the products that enter in your home, but I hope it will be worth the effort.

I keep being sent invitations but so far haven’t accepted them -…….it seems like it would take too much time.

I have joined the Nielsen panel months ago but I am not aware of this scan option. I simply had to install the Nielsen apps in my tablet and keep them working in the background. I have already exchanged points for a gift card so it works for me.

Good question; appears to be mixed responses. The first response about finances is interesting; I agree; I would not share that information. What is the purpose of knowing your income?

It’s legit, I’ve been doing it for twenty years. It’s not a huge imposition to scan. You accumulate points which you can redeem for prizes (including things like gift cards). It’s also remarkably good at sensitising you to prices, which I find helps with budgeting.

I had a friend that actually worked for neilsen and I was asking him about it because I figured it was a good way to get some extra money. From what he described it was extremely time consuming for the small reward you received in return.

I have been with them for a few years now and it is legit. Last year I paid for Christmas and father day with the points I had collected over the years. A few years back my oldest received a watch valved at $200 by redeeming points. They always send out a gift at Christmas time which do come in handy.

I am with Nielson for internet and mobile – not the scanner. I find it takes a long time to get points with them. Nielson mobile which tracks your mobile phone usage for websites etc. They say you will earn at least $50 a year I am at 11 months and have had one $25 voucher and need to earn a lot of points to get the next $25 voucher.

I’ve been a Nielsen member for a number of years now, and find it great. We scan our shopping once we get home, as it’s being put away. Takes a few minutes more, but that is not a problem for me. I find the scanning good, as it lets me double check the cost of items I have purchased.
Points accumulate and you can use them to buy vouchers and gifts. There is always a variety of gifts on offer, as well as special promotions from time to time.
We have never had any problems with privacy, and I would happily Nielsen.

Great question! I’ve always wanted to know myself. I attempted once, but the questions became really personal regarding finances etc… And I felt like I was completely an open book going forward so I stopped. Ive always been curious though and would also love to hear feedback from those who have experienced it fully.
