Hello!

Hiya,
Just wondering how I explain to my son – who has Aspergers that a family we have just met, and are very into texting LONG messages and want to arrange play dates all the time, etc may be a little OTT?? He thinks they are lovely, I am suffocated by the contact if that makes sense, and if I say something to my son, I am nervous he is going to just say it verbatim to the Mum without thinking… Which is a trait of his LOL
I am stumped!
Kaz

  • Aw it’s sometimes hard to be clear and turn people down ! I would first make up my mind if you want to hang out with them at all or just less. When you don’t want to hang out with them at all I would just say “sorry, I can’t make it” and when you just want to hang out less you could say “sorry I can’t make it this week, can you do next Wednesday ?” it doesn’t need further explanation. And in regards to long text messages, you don’t have to reply on every text or alternatively just a simply short reply is fine.

  • They could be really nice people, sounds like you aren’t giving them a chance. I text really long messages too, simply because I try to avoid miscommunication

  • Just realised I’ve already answered this question … hope all went well.

  • How’s it going with your OTT friends?

  • Just be polite and decline any invitations you do not want to accept. Hopefully they will back off a little.

  • yeah tell them that you will be busy but i bet that it is flattering to have that much attention lol

  • you guys are awesome, thanks for the good ideas

  • Maybe book some times in your calendar and that way everyone is prepared and stick with the set dates only and this can be explained to your son.

  • If you do not have enough time for them then politely let them know. It is your time and it is precious.

  • Only thing you can do is politely decline, only accept when you feel comfortable doing so. Will be difficult explaining to your son

  • Maybe just ignore a few messages or keep telling them you are busy and maybe they will get a hint otherwise be bold and say something to them!
