Hello!

I am talking about the snail mail type. I hear people talking on the bus that before long, receiving mail is going to be subject to you paying Australia Post a fee each year to deliver. I hope it is not true, as I sure won’t be doing that. I have slowly been cutting out snail mail where I can, and also emails that seem to mount up so quickly. How about you mums and dads? What would you do?

  • I’m glad we don’t have to pay for mail yet !

  • As it is now we receive our mail every two days and we just don’t get as much due to written bills converting to mobile phones on emails or text.

  • I pay $2 for my phone bill

  • I suspect this is just a rumor. I can’t see them getting away with it.

  • Apparently,mAustralia Post is losing money due to snail mail becoming obsolete! Currently they’re discussing cutting back deliveries, deliveries will be costing more but taking longer to arrive. So it wouldn’t be a surprise to me if this one day also becomes true

  • That would be terrible, I can see it happening though. Their already talking about increasing the cost of a stamp to a dollar and yet there will be less deliveries!! Not sure how they work that out :/

  • no,don’t think they will get away with this one… they do need to reduce service, as there just isn’t the volume of mail anymore. don’t worry, send mail and promote the service

  • Postage is expensive enough as it is! I thought that’s what pays for it to be delivered?…..

  • Disagree very strongly!! We pay excessive amounts already to send our mail so why on earth should we have to pay to receive it as well. It better be a joke, if not it’s just another way for the government to get money out of us!! Angry raaah. ;-)

  • It is something I am watching and following.

  • yeah we probably will have to

  • I really hope that we will not have to pay for our mail to be delivered in the future. One already pays for postage and I think that it is important that Australia Post keep on delivering mail regularly for free. I still enjoy getting mail in my actual not virtual mailbox. Unfortunately the art of letter writing is dying. With the popularity of emails the future jobs of posties will be severely jeapodised.

  • i would start collecting my mail

  • they were discussing changing it to different delivery days but I think that is not going to happen. besides, you pay postage to send surely that cannot charge to receive as well

  • Not a chance, if they bring it in, I will collect my mail weekly. That is why they pay for postage isn’t it?

  • I wouldn’t pay to have my mail delivered, I will go pick it up, but yes they are thinking of bringing it in because Aus Post lost so much money this financial year

  • The people on your bus probably referring to Australia Post having this idea to cut back on how many mail deliveries they do, if you want mail every day then you pay for the privilege, if not then they’ll deliver only three days each week.

I couldn’t really care less, who needs mail everyday, some people in rural areas don’t get daily mail and they survive.

It will be a long time before snail mail gets the axe, not everyone has access to a computer to receive their bills or other mail.

  • i believe they said the other week that they are not considering mail like this, I think too many people would just refuse to take delivery

  • this is the first I have heard of it, I hope it doesn’t happen.

  • The story was they were going to cut the home delivery post to 3 days a week and if you still wanted it everyday you would have to pay a fee but it will never happen the amount of people that complained was unreal.
Australia post had a loss of $180 million dollars I think it was last year and they thought that this would help save money.
