Power outages with kids - Mouths of Mums

Hello!

Recently we have had 3 power outages on three different days. Thankfully they were all during daylight hours but its made me wonder if anyone has any tips for getting through them easier apart from candles and flashlights lol. We are fine activity wise, like playing games etc but would love more practical ideas for meals/food, heating, cooling, charging etc. Any battery powered products or devices that are great during this time and help keep your house “running”

  • The area i live in went through this for 3 years where we would have regular power outages and they were very regular to the point people were complaining to the council about it. I looked into a small back up generator which would have been great but they were a little out of my price range. You should see if you can find lamps that take batteries as a back up.

  • We have just purchased a car battery charger from super cheap auto and it has usb slots on it so that is very handy but they do also sell portable power stations! Different prices for different battery sizes but definitely a game changer for a black out!! The battery sports fans are cheap and handy too we’ve found!

  • We do the same as you by power outages and use candles and flash lights. I can’t think of any battery powered products or devices that we have that would help and that could keep the house running. I know of some friends of mine that have a home emergency solar generator and a portable power station.

  • I absolutely dread this happening to us. Having very little kids and relying on baby cams would make an outage very tricky.
If you don’t have them already, portable battery packs are such a necessity for me. Being able to charge your phone at any time is so handy. It also works for my portable speaker, which would be great for no power. Cooling is just open the windows and hope for a breeze. Food would be tricky. Maybe just snacks and crackers and open the fridge as fast as i can for cheese.
Hope the outages stop for you
