Hello!

I have a four year old (he was born after 31st June) and is going to pre school next year, though he has some learning difficulties and needs one on one help. So I am thinking, to be organised, to start buying school supplies now. But as this is my first time I’m not sure what he would need. Some ideas would help if you can?

  • I was shocked how much my girl needed this year for Prep ! 2 boxes of coloured pencils, 2 boxes of crayons, 12 lead pencils, 2 erasers, 8 glue sticks, 2 pack of 4 white board markers, 1 scissors, 1 apron, 12 scrapbooks , 1 cassette, 1 head phone, 4 envelope organisers, 4 wide lines exercise books, 2 normal A4 exercise books and the list goes on ! and besides that of course the boxes of tissues and handsoap etc

  • A pre schooler won’t need much. School uniform if that’s what the school is into. Good quality lunchbox and drink bottle. Some good sturdy shoes. And a cute little back pack. That should do to start. If you need more, the school will let you know

  • For most preschools the main thing you need are lunch box, drink bottle and school bag. I’m not sure what state you are in but in nsw preschools/kindergartens that is about all you would need. Other then clothing,if you don’t need to buy a uniform you would be best getting polo shirts and a hat,and sensible shoes, not thongs, crocs etc as most preschools are sun smart and footwear ensures they are able to run and climb safely. But contact the kinder/preschool you are planning on sending your son to and ask them.

  • there are some good comments here

  • It’s best to ask your school, often the best things to supply are craft materials! Start saving those tissue boxes and paper towel rolls! Each school varies with their resource lists, kids often need far less than we give them! Time is the best thing you can give your child before they start school, an extra book before bed, nursery rhymes and songs in the car and help then to develop a keen passion for learning new things!

  • It depends on the school but a bag, a drink bottle, lunch box, uniform, as for school books ect mine only had a couple of scrapbooks and a folder for pre school. The rest was supplied at school.

  • Every school is slightly different so i would contact the school and ask for a supplies list. It might change slightly but at least you would be on the right track

  • Seems to be a bit different every school ü someone said on Facebook they were in NSW and need not supply anything, we started also in school in Sydney and got a list containing…tissues, glue, paper towel, baby wipes, white board markers and some books…just to name a few!
I would give the school a ring or maybe ask another parent ü
good luck and great idea getting started early…we will next time so not hit with expensive and the rush ü

  • Hope you have managed to get everything you need

  • Have a chat to your local newsagent – they usually get a copy of the book list and can probably help.

  • Lots of sales on at the moment.
How are you going with it all?

  • At my kids school they supply everything

  • how are you going with this?

  • Officeworks are really useful at helping with this sort of thing – they usually have a list of supplies to give you a sense of what sort of things you’ll need and I always find the staff to be really helpful

  • How are you going with preparation?

  • Backpack, lunch box, drink bottle, hat, gum boots, weather coat.

  • I hope all is going well with getting ready for next year.

  • How are you going with your preparation for pre-school?

  • How did you go with ideas on preschool items?

  • hat, bag, lunch box :)
