Hello!

I was wondering if you could ask the mums about primary schools in the port Stephens area. We aren’t from the are but are moving there in 6 months time. Also if there are any schools to avoid?

  • I dont think labeling schools as ‘bad’ is productive for anyone, if you have an issue with a school the only thing to do to make it better is to be proactive, if there is a legitimate concern make a complaint, dont be a bigot!

  • By now you will have made your decision. However if your child does not settle in, ask other parents fin your social group, sports club etc for recommendations.

  • Must be close to moving date – hope you have found one.

  • Go in, have a look around and get a feel for the place before making a decision

  • Most schools are welcome to you visiting and taking a walk through

  • Hope you find a good school for your children to attend.

  • How did you go with finding a school?

  • did you end up finding a school?

  • I hope you have found some helpful suggestions here.

  • Sorry I can not help but hope you find the info you are after.

  • Sounds like u have a big job ahead of u

  • You could also ask any of your neighbours for their opinions on schools. Its hard when you move to a new area, not knowing anything about any of the local schools

  • agree with previous poster about the myschools website, I’m in the same boat as you so have been doing some research on there. Also, if you could visit each school in the area after you move to check them out that’s a good idea too. Hope you manage to find one you like.

  • My School website should give you an idea of where to start looking.

  • Where is St Phillips????

  • Trying to decide to where to buy land. Thinking Corlette?? Not sure which public school this suburb falls under. Also not sure if Anna bay is good area & school???
Thanks all for yr helpful suggestions

  • Soldiers Point Primary is good. You have to be within the boundaries though. Tomaree is such a huge school at Salamander and not the best reputation.

  • St Brigids at Raymond terrace is excellent!!!

  • don’t look at naplan results. go to the schools and talk to the teachers / go with what you like the feel of

  • we are at St Phillips and are very happy. Just started Kindy this year. I know mums at St Michaels who are also very happy. Shoal Bay public and Soldiers Point also have great recommendations. They will look at out of designated areas, but it is tough to get in if you are out of area.
