Hello!

Do you get a professional to make your children’s Birthday cakes? Or do you just make it yourself? I tend to just make it myself but when we are having a big “Party” I buy my Birthday Cakes from Cost-Co!

  • I’ve always made them myself except on a couple of larger occasions when I thought a bakery cake would look nicer.

  • I’m lucky in that I can make a professional cake myself, there’s a lot of pressure these days.

  • I like to make them myself. Having them professionally made isn’t even “im frage”, far too expensive !

  • I actually enjoy making my own cakes.

  • I’ve made most myself. The 18ths and 21sts I paid someone to make them.

  • So far I’ve made all birthday cakes myself, but I agree with you that I would most likely buy a cake for a big party e.g. 21st or Engagement.

  • I make it myself as I have done a cake decorating course in the past. It is a lot of work and the decorating material not cheap. I like do it all in very details and the end result is amazing. It is worth it all the hard work to see my babies big smile.

  • Cakes made by mothers are awesome, my mother used to make all our cakes when we were little, chose them from the cookbook and she was awesome, made all types of cakes

  • We have someone that makes our cakes for us. They have made them for the past 5 years for birthdays, christenings, baby showers etc. Now we do parties – we get them made, just family – they get to choose one from one of the cake books I have here. They’re not perfect but the kids don’t care, it was made by Mum

  • I made a Dinosaur cake for my 6 year old for her Birthday

  • Give them a banana cake with icing decorated on top with edible decorations and candles to light. My kids love them more than fancy ones. None of them like special icings. they only like the basic butter icing as the school age kids call it.
I remember when I was young my Mum made all the family birthday cakes. My Great Auntie made one for my Great Uncle that sunk in the middle. She turned it upside down and put a saucer upside down to support it, then iced and decorated it. She didn’t warn him before he cut it. He only got the knife in about an inch and the knife hit the saucer. I don’t think she ever lived that one down. It was discussed a few times over the years. My favourite as a child was single layer sponge with whipped cream and small pineapple pieces on top.

  • I love making my kid’s birthday cakes from the Women’s Weekly cookbook. It’s a tradition in our family. I have fond memories of planning my own birthday cakes from it when I was little and my kids enjoy doing the same thing.

  • yes ice-cream cake! i was reminded of ice-cream sandwiches! could do something similar for the cake.

  • I am a fan of an ice cream cake – but the WWCookbook of kids cakes is a classic, and this site and taste.com.au have awesome cakes

  • I like the Costco idea! I also tend to make cakes myself but I really enjoy baking. They aren’t the most amazing looking creations compared to others but they taste good :)
