Hello!

“My son is wanting to do wees on the ‘big’ toilet but every time I put him on it he complains it is too big (we also have a potty that he has been using). Therefore, can any recommend a step up toilet trainer? (I have researched a few but the over all consensus is that they are all unstable). Thanks :)” Do you have any recommendations for a step up toilet trainer?

  • I have a wooden one from ebay, it’s very solid and has grips for the hands as well. Together with s toilet seat with child insert, it has been really helpful.

  • Whatever you choose, make sure it is stable and also not too tricky to clean (ie – easy to dunk in the laundry trough or wipe over with not too many crevices). It also need to allow your son to sit at the correct angle when sitting and also the correct height for stand up wees, as that allows them to feel more comfortable when learning how to toilet.

  • Great ideas! It was interesting reading the comments to this!

  • You can get step up ones from K-mart, Big W, Toy’R’Us and Target. They cost about $20.

  • We got the kmart one – a little “ladder” up to the toilet and special seat -found it to be perfectly stable and she loves using it

  • Hope you found one that you liked.

  • Baby Bunting has a step up ladder one, we love it

  • What did you end up getting?

  • We had the sesame street one too – worked well.

  • Target do have a great range, we had one from there that actually went over the seat with grip handles and a padded rim.

  • We have moved on to the $8 Target plastic seats which fit under the toilet seat. They’re great and very stable!

  • Lots of good tips Hope you have solved the problem

  • Yes the step helps a lot

  • I used the sesame street 4-in-1 total trainer set for my little girl and it was fantastic. Its exclusive to target.

  • Toys r us have a toilet seat with a step this goesover the top of your toilet.

  • My sis used the step. It was great

  • does this make it messier?

  • Instead of a contraption like that I got a normal step (good for reaching tap too) and a kids toilet seat that just went on top the the regular. Less clutter and no big contraption in the area. Worked a treat.

  • We got a cheap on from Big W with 2 steps and a smaller toilet seat that fits into the big toilet our little girl loves it and can get on the toilet herself. Its very stable and doesn’t have any thing that can pinch her legs.

  • For a step I would recommend getting a fold up tradesman step. They are not too expensive (under $20 from memory) but are small, light to carry around and REALLY sturdy as they are designed to hold full grown adults.
