Hello!

Hi Mums,

I’m looking for some advice on the best walker to buy for my 8-month-old baby. I want something that not only supports their little legs but is also safe and sturdy. There are so many options out there, and I’d love to hear your recommendations on brands or specific models that worked well for your little ones.

I’m especially interested in walkers that encourage proper development and are easy to manoeuvre. Are there any features I should prioritise, or brands that stand out for quality and safety?

Any tips or insights would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,
A First-Time Mum

  • I have a V Tech walker that has the removable play board. My 15 month old is yet to walk with it as it will just zoom across the floor when leaning against it and they can’t be weighed down. A block wagon is great, you can put rice bags or flour so it won’t go under your bub.

  • It is often a good idea to go to equipment places and get advice from them too. Often these people can point out features and provide other essential information. When purchasing any product it is such a good idea to do plenty of research and gather as much information as possible.

  • I have always gone to stores and product tested any items and products to be purchased and used for a baby. Staff should be able to provide you with all the important features and the safety of products. It is also a good idea to research products through sites that product test and rate products.

  • If you have a local community facebook group, you should see if anyone might be willing to let you come over and have a look at the ones they have. My community does this a lot and it is really helpful when you are unsure of what to buy and don’t want to go into the stores yet.

  • I’d be asking in the baby stores and actually viewing them. There are many safety concerns with walkers nowadays and I think seeing the real thing is better. I found walkers wonderful when the kids were little so I’d still be getting one nowadays. I’d be reading reviews on the one you like.

  • We chose not to use a walker at all, because we’d heard so many safety concerns about them. If you do choose to use one, I’d prioritise safety. Look up Choice magazine and see if they’ve done a study – it’s a good starting point.

  • A sit in walker. She can’t walk or stand on her own yet.

  • Not sure if you mean a sit in or push walker but the best pack walker we’ve ever had came from the side of the road! He’s still obsessed! He’s 18 months and is nearly folded in half using it! It gives him confidence to run fast! Even though he still stacks it! He looks silly but God forbid I suggest we donate it…

  • Do you mean a push walker or the ones they actually sit in? Most people will tell you the ones they sit in are no longer recommended but obviously do your own research; and each to their own. With regard to the push walkers I really love the V tech brand. 🙂
