Hello!

“Hi, I’m a mum of 2 boys and have recently found out that both of my children are severely allergic to mold. After finding this out and finding mold in our bathroom we have cleaned it up as best as we can, but still it can come back at any stage. The question I have is should I sell my current house or renovate our bathrooms. I know there is a huge cost in buying a new house but the disruption of renovating is also putting me off.
So any ideas or thoughts i’d love to know.” What would you do? Would you renovate or sell?

  • I’d love to know what you decided to do.

  • I would sell for sure

  • You probably just need better ventilation in your bathrooms, so I would definitely renovate.

  • If you could buy new would be wonderful, but if you can’t do it ,the bathroom makeovers were brilliant I have seen on TV,so you should just get your best design if this is going to fix the problem or move.

  • Really interesting comments read on this!

  • Would love to hear what you did

  • I’d get out and go. Keep the property as a rental for a year or two while you rent elsewhere to give you time to think while getting your kids away from something that could affect their health. There are some terrific tax benefits to renting, and you’ll get a fresh perspective in a temporary new home.

  • Renovating may be cheaper as there is not guarantee about mould in an old or new house.

  • Mould is a pesky thing! It can appear anywhere so even if you buy a new house, it may appear again! Best to renovate and try and’mould proof’ your house properly.

  • Hopefully you have found a solution to your dilemma, we have had a really bad season for mould and am currently in the process of removing mold myself!

  • there are some good comments here

  • What did you end up doing?

  • Some good advice there below.

  • RENOVATE! unless you live in an area you wish to move from, Try and find a cleaning company that specializes in mould removal, Mould Assassins is a franchise cleaning group who can safely remove mould and treat the area so it doesn’t return immediately, and while your at it increase the ventilation in your bathroom area!

  • We had mould in our bathroom and renovated (when I was heavily pregnant mind you). Love my new shower, no mould and very happy. You can get fantastic new paint products too which are worth trying (we did those and found that the problem was with the plaster which had to go…and the tiles I never liked).

  • Did you end up renovating?

  • how did it turn out?

  • Do what is best for your family and their health

  • Did you renovate or sell?

  • if that bathroom doesnt really need a renovation other than the mould, as in fixtures and fittings are not to outdated, i would try getting a professional cleaner out to do an insanely deep clean and then just be really pedantic about cleaning it regularly. no point renovating or selling unless they are ruled as the ONLY options.
