That’s an extreme reaction. Might I suggest some professional help? I’m at a loss as to what else to suggest as he gets so upset

If it were me i’d visit the community health centre and ask a nurse if she can say mummy is the nurse at home and this is why she does this it’s to help lol but were in a small town so i don’t think they would do it in the cities

Let him know that it is nothing serious and try and introduce him to blood slowly? Has he had a blood test? Can he look at a vile of blood after it’s taken?

I heard a great tip a few years ago and have used it since. Get some red or dark face washers/ hand towels and grab those when there is an incident involving blood. The child won’t see the blood as easily and hopefully things can be a little calmer while you deal with the injury.

We had special bandaids and a cold pack, but everychild is different…good luck

usually with any cuts, nicks or grazes I’ll hand over my phone that has a folder of games on it once they are distracted get to work on the the band-aid

Some adults faint at the sight of blood so understandable children can have issues too. Compress the site to stop the bleeding then apply a funky bandaid, a kiss it better and praise for being a good boy! Maybe role playing with a toy animal or doll.

My Autistic son has big issues with blood too, I use a red flannel and carry one in my bag especially for washing and cuts or grazes, I also use a spray on bandage that dries very quickly and use a special ‘secret weapon’ (skype to nanny, favorite you-tube clip) to divert his attention, its also a good idea to discuss how important blood is and that it is nothing to be scared of while respecting their fear of it.

That must be really hard for you. I have a little bottle of Medipulv antiseptic powder for cuts and sores as you can sprinkle or “puff” it onto cuts and grazes without having to touch them – might be worth a try?

There is a great show on CBebbies that goes through a lot of medical stuff. It is called Get Well Soon and has Dr Ranj explain a lot of different things you go to the Drs for and it might help to watch this sort of show so that he isn’t scared. Also if you cut yourself maybe ask him to get you a band aid so he can see that it isn’t scary at all.

both my kids did this, But i found a funky bandaid did the trick. Like spiderman or barbie bandaid.

Perhaps just try and remain super calm and dont add extra stress by trying to look at his injury. You know that when he hurts himself it is going to be fine unless you can see mountains of blood you know that hes in no serious danger so just allow him to deal with his upset and just calmly tell him that if he would like you to help and put a band aid on, etc he can come to you when hes ready.

My son was like that, all I could do was get a wash cloth and hold it against the spot that was bleeding. The reason he didn’t want me to fix it was cause he could see it when i was trying to fix it. I would wait till he calmed down and the bleeding stopped then he would let me do what i needed. I am hoping he grows out of it. Good luck
