In addition to my comments below about organising lunch boxes there is more prepping by everyone according to age as time goes on. The preparing and making lunches baton needs to be handed over and being a good role model with healthy food choices and some treats is very important.

I am really big on organisation in all areas and have always prepped all lunches for the household. I plan for the week and of course everyone provides ideas on what they want in their lunch boxes. We go with healthy foods and some treats. Mornings are busy and grab and go packed lunch boxes eliminate one less thing to do in the morning.

I don’t have bigger kids yet but my parents stopped packing mine in early high school, and from there I didn’t really eat much at school. I was the kid who didn’t really care for being organised and was okay to just have a dry pack of 2 minute noodles through the day

I actually stopped when they were in primary school – when they were about 8 years old. They did it themselves after that – albeit under my supervision, and with some rules about what they could pack (ie no junk food). It worked really well – saved me work, promoted independence, and they’re still doing it in high school.
