Nah, don’t be concerned. He may skip the crawling all together. Scooting is one (adorable) way some babies get around when they first start moving independently. It’s a prelude to traditional crawling for some babies, but others prefer scooting to get around and may stick with it until they’re ready to start pulling up and try walking.

No I wouldn’t be worried at all. Crawling as such isn’t needed for development. Your bub sounds perfectly healthy and on track. He’s worked out how to move by bum scooting and may be one of those buns that go straight to walking. It’s not going to affect your bubs development or coordination if he doesn’t crawl ‘properly’. Just let him go as he pleases and he’ll work it out.

All babies are different and progress at different rates. You are correct in saying some babies never crawl and go straight to walking. If you are worried, discuss with your child health nurse

Pop into your early childhood centre and talk with the early childhood nurse there. If there’s no issue, then at least you can say to everyone that it’s all fine and he’s been checked.

He might be one of these kids that go straight to walking and never really crawls. Unless there is any apparent development delays you are specifically concerned about I wouldn’t worry. If he still isn’t in a couple of months maybe mention to your local GP.

No, you have no reason to be concerned. Ignore the nay sayers, even though they’re probably only trying to help. One of mine skipped crawling altogether and went straight to walking. No drama, no developmental problems at all

some kids don’t walk for a while yet, they just get content with how they are doing it. i think that as long as they walk by 2 years old, they are fine.

I wouldn’t be worried, I have 6 children and they have all developed very differently. As long as he is meeting all other milestones then it sounds as though he is doing fine. My third born didn’t even walk until 18 months.

Children learn in their own time & every child is different.
If you are really concerned & it’s affecting you, & your child, discuss it with your GP who may be able to arrange further testing.

They say tummy time is good but my nephew hated it and cried from the time he was put on it. He was only 7 weeks old when his Mum laid him on his stomach on a towel on the middle of their bed to make it easier to dry his back after his bath. He rolled himself over onto his back. His Mum was so shocked she rang me and told me her son was too smart for his own good. It is good if they crawl as it strengthens their back muscles. One I know pulled herself along on her arms and looked like a fish swimming. I know of two who have pulled themselves along with one arm sitting on their bottoms with a toy in the other hand. One of them after a couple of months sometimes crawled properly. The other one later developed back problems due to weak muscles, not spinal problems at all.

Some babies don’t do everything at the same times as others. As long as the Drs and child nurse know then they will know. Get a referral to a pediatrician if you need too

I wouldn’t be concerned. My 3 older children were text book, rolled, crawled, sat, walked and all text book. But my youngest was not. She never rolled, just never did it. She was sitting by around 4.5-5 months though and then started to bum shuffle. At around 11 months it turned into a bum shuffle/cross crawl and around 6 weeks later she started walking independently. She never crawled, not like a normal baby. She is nearly 3 now and her development is fine, she jumped with feet in the air earlier than my other kids, is a better climber etc. Crawling is good for their development because it activates both sides of the brain but I learned with my youngest that not all kids crawl, she did things her own way and she is fine.

I wouldn’t be too concerned. My son army crawled (didn’t use his legs at all) It got to the point people were asking if I was giving him protein powder because he had bulging muscles at 10 Months old lol. If you are concerned though speak to your doctor so they can do a physical check and make sure his spine is aligned ok. Now my boy is a typical little 4 year old. He didn’t actually crawl until around 13 months then walked at 14 months. Was drop kicking footys by 18 months lol

Next time your son sees the health nurse or doctor they can help you organise for a hip xray to check if the development is where is should be, dont worry it will be free with the medicare card. but dont stress some kids dont crawl much at all. Some walk early or scoot everywhere. But its good to know there is nothing to worry about. Two of my three kids need xrays/ ultrasounds on their hips to make sure there were no development issues and they have turned out just fine…. it just took them longer than others……..

I wouldn’t be concerned as every kiddo is different. Some just go straight to walking.

My daughter crawled very little. Just to cross the room actually. Started at around 9- 9 and a half months. At 11 months old she started to walk.
I wouldn’t be concerned at all.
