Hello!

Do others experience slugs entering the house after a down pour of rain.

How do you stop them?

I have been using salt on the door entrances but they are still coming in.

  • Aw yak that must be hard !
I think salt is a good choice I’ve heard seaweed (powdered) has the same effect as it’s salty.
I assume they come from outside and you may want to like into slug repelling plants like wormwood, rue, fennel, anise, and rosemary. Also add coffee and egg shells to your garden. And you can make beer traps too !

  • Have you got a garden very close to your doors that encourages them? Some plants seem to attract them. We had trouble with them climbing the rough surface bricks of a raised garden bed, then venturing across the lawn a few minutes later. The kids thought it was fun to put them in an old canned fruit tin and sprinkle salt on them, We got plenty of snails too. I don’t know what to suggest that isn’t toxic to bare skin or pets. Pests often crawl away and die, not just where you apply the bait of any type.

  • No, I’ve never had slugs in the house. They are damp and moisture loving creatures so I’m assuming they’re attracted to the damp in your home? No idea how to stop them sorry

  • No that would be horrible to wake up too!

  • They are ugly creatures . I woke up one morning to one in the kitchen . I have been told they come out of the drains because the rain makes it moist . Ours is mostly the kitchen so make sure your pipes such as the one under the sink don’t have gaps and I put insect pellets through the outside vent of the house in case they crawl through there. It seems to lessen them . Also give your plumber a call if severe as it maybe your drain pipes .

  • I don’t think I would use salt in or around your house structure. If the door is under cover you could try talcum powder or something similar. They may not like it being stuck to them. Ants certainly don’t like it and won’t cross it.

  • Ew, sounds horrible! Is your house damp inside?

  • a bowl of beer outside will attract them away from your home, and they will drown in the beer.

  • Also; eggshells may work too!

  • Slugs hate rough surfaces like bark, mulch and gravel.
Maybe coarse/rough mats on the entrances?

  • What a random topic but I found some useful answers -thanks!

  • maybe use a surface spray for bugs?

  • What was the outcome? did you get rid of the slug problem?

  • Hope you found a successful solution from all of these answers!

  • Get a small container, eg margarine container, and put a little beer in. They are attracted to it, then you can just put the lid on and bin. If you can dig the container in the ground even better

  • they may be coming in under the skirting boards so try adding some salt around there too

  • you need to find where they are getting in and seal the gaps

  • Have tried salt and surfacr spray doesn’t work. Fortunately, I only get them now and then.

  • I have this issue every now and then, but surface spray doesn’t work.

  • i don’t think salt works as they are not leech…
