Hello!

Why is my son banging his head? My 15 month old son keeps banging his head. He will go up to something and bang his head against it eg wall, cupboard, floor, this morning was a banging a toy, so it hurts and he cries. Lately it has been banging his head on the floor over and over. Keep asking him to stop as it is going to hurt him as he starts to get upset but keeps doing it. Is this just a phase?

  • My boys were the same and u brought it yo with maternal child health nurse and she laughed and told me that’s it’s just a ‘head banging phase’. I wasn’t convinced but after a couple months he just stopped. Good luck, hope your little one stops soon.

  • sorry babe, but please go to a paediatrician. my son is autistic and this was a symptom, as well as a very rigid baby prior to lifting his head. with animals, it can be a sign of significant illness!!!! urgent check up please x

  • Is he still banging his head?

  • it is not a stage I am familiar with so I would discuss with the GP in case there is a medical reason for this

  • i hope he has stopped

  • Is he still banging his head?

  • Did you end up finding out why?

  • Good luck, has he stopped it now?

  • I would be worried myself – I’d advise just speaking to your doctor.

  • Might be that he has an ear infection or headache, my daughter does that and we think she might have a headache and we give her some baby neurofen and within 20 minutes she stops doing it and so each time she does it we give her the medicine.

  • I have seen this before, but I think it is just a phase, hope it does not last long for you.

  • it s just a phase and he isn’t hurting himself or he would stop. just ignore him when he does it and leave the room and he will probably cease

  • Wanted to know aswell, thanks for posting.

  • It is best to see your doctor cause there could be a problem

  • Discuss this with your gp but I am sure it is a phase. One of mine did this for a while too

  • I would take him to your GP just to rule out any real problems.
If the GP says all is fine then hopefully he will grow out of it and all will be well.

  • my partner did this when he was younger. turns out it comes down ti hia ears. he did it to stop he ringing

  • Sometimes it can be just a phase, or an attention thing but it wouldn’t hurt to see your Gp just to make sure there is nothing behind the behaviour

  • Haha my son does this also. Just a phase as all my nephews did it and my eldest son. They get bruises and it can be awful to watch but trust me he will grow out of it. X

  • My little brother was chronic, my son never has. I suggested mum get his neck checked out by chiro as my son had sore neck and they fixed it not long after birth. His head wasn’t sitting on his neck properly and causing headaches so his natural instinct was to bash his head to try push it back in. Worth looking into
