Hello!

It’s not until February but I’m planning now as I get excited!! It’s a Girls first party and thinking maybe either pink and white Minnie Mouse, twinkle twinkle little star or a rainbow theme. Was thinking of having at a local park but all our parks are near water or roads so I feel I would be paranoid with so many kids attending (probably around 20 littilies). I have a small house and a tiny backyard but thought maybe I could get a jumping castle in my driveway? Thoughts on this? Suggestions of themes? Party games for toddlers that will be attending? Cool party favour ideas??

  • Give Pinterest a look in, there are hundreds of ideas and links to games and favours.

  • maccas. you can pick a theme that they have on offer. you rock up and leave, no mess, no hassle. they provide a host for you as well $7 a child, minimun 10

  • Princesses and Prince theme or fairies.

  • I would still have it at a park if that’s your first choice. Let all the parents know if it’s going to be near the water and request they stay with their child/ren to help with supervision

  • My suggestions – theme – go to a party shop/dollar shop and have a look at what is available otherwise you’ll struggle to find what you want. There’s heaps of themes out there without picking one that’s been done a thousand times. Is there anything unique about your daughter ie my friend chose an owl theme as their daughter has big wise eyes
Jumping castle – if the 1yr old makes it on the castle it would probably be for 2 seconds, these are expensive and I would suggest reserving this idea until she’s old enough to enjoy it (and remember it)
You said the birthday is Feb (summer), it might be a good idea to have it near water so people can cool off. Everyone will keep an eye on their kids and generally everyone will be keeping an eye on the birthday girl (grandparents, aunts etc). Parks are good but if it rains you need a back up plan.
Party games – pass the parcel, pin the tail on the (insert theme here), blow bubbles. Toddlers have a short attention span and I wouldn’t do anything too elaborate.

  • maybe see how much it would be to hire a local community hall – they are not usually too bad on pricing and have facilities including tables, chairs and most of the time a usable kitchen. usually the halls will have an area that a jumping castle could be set up on.

  • Thanks for that very helpful and lots of tips I appreciate it!!

  • I like the idea of Minnie Mouse, rainbows, ladybugs or butterflies. When my boys turned one we had it at a hall (lived in tiny unit), it was great because there was enough space to play, there was a kitchen for food prep and heating and we could use the heating/cooling to keep everyone comfortable. I have been to 1st bday parties with jumping castles and found most of the littlies under 3 got hurt or fell/bounced out. We hired toys, foam shapes & other rideables from our local toy library (it was much cheaper than a castle and we used the membership all year). As for the lolly bags, I have found that small board books, bath toys, balls & bubbles work a treat :)

  • Thanks for the ideas they are great :)

  • I love the rainbow theme. perfect at that age and you can make a rainbow of colourful fruit for a healthy option. Pinterest have some amazing rainbow party ideas!

  • minnie mouse is always a winner- we had a cake smash where we let our daughter eat her own cake with her hands, the photos were adorable
