They say 6 months. I tried but I couldn’t handle that sad cry knowing that she wanted her mummy so she sleeps in our bed now and it works for us. Everyone is happy and well rested of course it dosent work for everyone so you need to do what’s right for you. My family care nurse said you can do controlled crying from 6 months and I think that’s what they teach at sleep schools also. I know of mums that have done it from 3 months and it’s worked for them also but most feel they are too young at that age.
Whilst I am not keen on this method I think a quick google search will give you lots of information on the technique and appropriate ages to start trying it.
Everyone is different.. Personally if I know my child isn’t hungry, has just been changed, and isn’t hurting. Then let them cry. They have to learn to settle themselves
Go with your gut, if you feel like you just can’t leave them crying go to them. Even at 21 months my twins will cry out and sometimes I get the gut feeling that I must go to them and soothe them with their dummies or blankets. It’s all about how you feel and what you can handle.
I would not recommend this method but if you choose to do so. Never leave your child cry for more than 10 mins!, it releases certain chemicals into the brain and can cause mental health and behavour issues in the future. What are you hoping to gain from controlled crying? an independant child, my son slept in out bed almostly nightly from 3 months old (he got sick and it was just a stressful time and this helped us all through… I also wouldn’t recommend your kid sleeping in your bed it difficult to get them out) and i have never met a more independant kid, he’s 21/2 and he wants to do everything alone and not to have someone watching over his shoulder, independance comes from within and how you interact with them when they are awake.
I tried but I think it distress’s me more than the baby and in the end I pick them up and sooth them and they fall asleep pretty much straight away… Poor things from the exhaustion of crying… Didn’t really work for me… Not that fond of it either…
