Sounds they’re wet for too long. I have a rack that hangs over the stair rails so I can hang the wash up high, which is helpful as warm air rises up. I use my dryer too on cold and wet days

If you cannot get your clothes dried outside and they are smelling from taking too long to dry inside I would use a dryer at the laundromat if you haven’t got one at home.

I add a little vinegar to the rinse cycle to remove the smell.

Can you put them under a heater vent to dry? As it sounds like they are t drying properly. Also I leave a rung in between my towels so it has more space around it especially for thicker towels. Otherwise I put them in the drier for 30 minutes to get done of the extra wetness off them and then hang them up to dry

Can you hang them over an internal railing? Or, get yourself a clothes horse and set it up temporarily in the living room to air your towels out in a dry room.

I have a clothes horse out by our wood heater during winter. We don’t have a clothes dryer. I use it to air our bath towels on over night too. Dries them out and prevents any musty smells

The smell comes when the water in them dries without actually evaporating. There’s hardness and smell both… in winters, when you cant get them out in the sun, best is to use a dryer…on the “heat” mode. If no dryer, put them outside in the balcony, even if they wont dry fully, the smell will go away with major water evaporation

Yes, they are not drying properly. Put them near a heater on a towel rack out of the bathroom. I put mine on the bannisters if the towel rack is in use.

One way is to hang them in a sunny spot in the home or put box of bi carb in bathroom to absorb moisture

I wash all our towels weekly and put into the clothes dryer to finish off when drying

I would wash them twice a week and dry them in the clothes dryer.

Using a washing rope line underneath a pergola or balcony is always a good idea. It can be useful for drying and airing clothes during winter.

Do you have an exhaust fan in the bathroom? If so make sure it’s on during a shower/bath.
