Time off during school hours - Mouths of Mums

Hello!

I would love to hear what other mums think of time off during school days. My daughter has to go to some appointments that can only be made during school hours which means i have to take her out of school for the appointment. The school my daughter goes to, marks her down as absent for a half day even if she is only taken out for school for 30 minutes. I don’t think this is right and would love to know what other mums experience with their kids schools.

  • Our school is just the same. It used to bother me but not so much anymore, now If I need to take them out of school for an appointment I just make it worth it. Like we might find a special place at or enjoying the time out of school. I think you can always catch up or even be ahead of what’s happening at school anyway so days off won’t make a big difference in the end

  • Appointments are definitely necessary, but it would depend on your circumstances. If she needs frequent appointments and you think it will effect her attendance I would reach out to the principal to discuss the matter further. Maybe a note from their GP that they need reoccurring appointments that only take her out of school a max 1hr

  • I think making it to appointments is more important than missing 30 minutes of school. I guess that’s how the school system works unfortunately. Are you wanting your child to have 100% attendance?
Maybe try and make the appointments for later in the afternoon, sorry no help but no a lot you can do
