Hello!

“I have question that I thought your readers may be able to help out with. My son is 22mths and we are still waking in the night – upto 3 times a night! He refuses to go back to sleep without some milk. He wont eat breakfast, so im filling him up on morning tea and lunch. Only sometimes he will eat all his dinner! I try to do things like pasta and potato to fill him up. He will have a cup (no bottles) of formula milk before bed. He then wakes between 10 and 1am, and then he just wakes up at any time from 1am till 7am! As I can not afford to keep giving him formula, I have tried regular milk, which I flavour with vanilla), thinking he may not like it and give up, but that has not worked. I have tried letting him cry but he gets too worked up. Its exhausting and I need some advice, any tips on what other parents may have done in this experience.
Thank you MOM ” Any tips for a 22 month old walking in the night?

  • I bet that now nearly 7years later the problem isn’t there anymore :)
How did you break the circle at that point ?

  • I started gradually watering he formula down with cows milk. Formula is sweeter than cows milk! And when I mean gradually think as small amount as possible! Then once he is on cows milk then start watering that down with warm water and eventually warm water. I did this with my baby at that age as he was the same, but it was a comfort thing not a hunger thing. Sounds like some of your problem could be hunger?! Is he not hungry or just refuses to eat. Perhaps reduce snacks after lunchtime so he is starving by bedtime??

  • I hope you have found some answers, I will admit I co sleep so might feeding is not really an issue for us, in fact I dont think I even wake if my little one stirs though the night. By 22 months you would hope soon that your little one starts learning to self settle through the night, not by crying it out but just by knowing you are close by and he is safe.

  • I used to give her a little pot of custard or yoghurt right before sleep, and that tended to stop her waking up hungry in the night

  • I agree with Kathyrn’s answer. Hopefully all is now well and you have a little boy who sleeps through.

  • Hope you managed to break the habit!

  • I hope it went well :)

  • Good luck with changing the routine!

  • how did you go? :)

  • Maybe some milo in the milk with dinner will help keep him full and break the cycle. Sounds like you need to break the cycle of later breakfast and hardly any dinner

  • Is he still waking multiple times through the night?

  • Hope you managed to find the answer you were looking for.

  • Hope it all worked out in the end

  • What did you end up doing?

  • Hope you have had some help through these comments.

  • When my baby wakes through the night and I want to sleep I co sleep with them in my bed, they fall asleep and I do to.

  • warm milk maybe any luck?

  • Some good suggestions below – anything helped?

  • Some kids just don’t sleep as well as others in the night, hopefully they are not getting too much sleep during the day.

  • Thanks heaps ! Wondering this myself. .
