Hello!

Hi, just wondering if you can post question to other mums. I would love some tips on how to cut toenails of a toddler who won’t let us near her feet. Thanks.

  • My youngest has Down Syndrome and doesn’t like things like cutting nails, brushing hair, brushing teeth, cleaning ears. I prepare her that it’s happening with a daily schedule and do it before something she likes doing. For example; first we cut the nails, then you can go for a bit on your iPad or watch a tv show. Also there are lots of nice video’s about these type of topics on YouTube Kids which I found helpful to watch together

  • This might sound strange, but if you suspend your toddler in an adults singlet so that their feet are dangling, and then give them an iPad/iPhone to play on, they probably won’t even notice – works with cutting my dogs claws, but she only needs peanut butter on the tiled wall to distract her lol- Good luck!

  • When they are distracted by television, eating food in a high chair (so they can’t see their feet) or when napping or asleep.

  • Do it wHen they are asleep

  • bride and distraction and gentle persuasion?

  • yes distraction but sleeping is great if you remember to do it then

  • wait until there asleep which just reminded me to cut master2 ‘s nails.

  • when they are alseep or if that does not work after a long bath while watching a dvd they love

  • I wait until my 3 year old is in a deep sleep.

  • Cutting them whole she’s asleep is a great way..

  • wait until she is asleep and do it then

  • My son and I sit outside on the deck so that any mess goes on the grass and he is distracted by the birds in the trees and other noises I get him to focus on and identify – it also feels like a more relaxed environment than the bathroom :) good luck!

  • Its amazing what you can get done while they are asleep..or take her to get her ‘nail done’

  • Try to do it when they are asleep. Goodluck!

  • How did you go in the end with cutting the toe nails?

  • wait until they are asleep – that is how I do my daughters at the moment

  • i hope you had success

  • Hope you found the answer you were looking for.

  • What did you end up doing?

  • I generally do when they are asleep or just out of the bath and their nails are soft
