Hello!

My baby has just turned 1 & I want to transition her from formula to cows milk. After trying every formula on the market, she has been on the AR formula since she was 3 months old. I’m concerned that she may be lactose intolerant as even a small bit of cows milk makes her vomit. Any suggestions on alternatives to try and ways of testing for intolerance would be great. She is still a spewing baby – some days she even struggles to hold down water and will often sick up after yoghurt. Thanks

  • Only way I could suggest is by adding a small amount of milk to her formula, see how she goes, gradually increase if she seems to be going ok

  • a friend of ours little boy could only have almond milk – another option which might work

  • She could be lactose intolerant. My daughter was on a cow’s milk formula for 11 months and suffered lots of unspecific symptoms which improved once I switched her to a soy formula. It might be worth a try. If the right thing, she will improve pretty quickly.

  • make sure its watered down to start with then gradually use less water. only cos it will upset there belly

  • goats milk is the closet to human breast milk and easier to digest than cows milk. I would start on that and buy organic if you can find it (i have found raw goats and cows milk which is great for people who are lactose intolerant because they haven’t been altered in the process of homogenizing and pasteurizing but you must know your farmer and know that they provide clean milk for sanitary conditions) worth a shot i ll be transitioning our 1 year old to raw milk in the next few weeks because to be honest formula ingredients aren’t the most natural and soy is an absolute no go in my opinion.

  • Have you tried toddler formula if not try soy milk. My son can’t drink too much kill he has toddler formula and 1 cup of milk a day

  • water it down or try her on soy milk or even add a bit of vanilla to it for flavour

  • i would seek help for this one …….

  • you could water the milk down first

  • there are some good comments here

  • Have you tried A2 milk? Ive heard Zyrill milk is also very good.

  • Possibly wait a bit longer. I tried both my bubs at 12 months and ended up having to wait until they were over 16 months before they could tolerate it

  • You could try it watered down or a mix of both for a while, but you may need to adjust her diet or keep her on a toddler formula for a little longer.

  • The main benefit of milk is possibly calcium , goats milk is more people friendly. Or even cheese. A healthy diet will provide other minerals, Vitamins and trace elements. Easier to find out then ever before on the Internet!!!

  • If she is throwing up cows milk then there is really no sense in even thinking about switching her over.
If shes happy on the formula then why not just leave her on it?
Its all a matter of making sure shes getting all the vitamins and minerals, etc that she needs.
You can take her to the Docs for testing but even if the Doc says shes fine …you still now that giving her these things makes her feel sick so there is no point.

  • HI :)
All three of my boys are lactose intolerant.
I currently use Soy milk or lactose free milk – I try to stick to the same brand so their tummies don’t get too upset.
My oldest son, now 8 drinks normal cows milk and is good.
The four and two yr olds are still on the lactose free milk. Their little tummies will mature and hopefully we will be into the cows milk soon :)

  • Try the a2 milk, I and my daughter are both lactose intolerant and can drink this milk.

  • I Would Just Give Her The Cows Milk, And See How She Goes There Are Other Milk You Could Try But If She Is Still Being Sick Take Her To The Doctors

  • I think the only way to test it out is to let her try the milk and look out for reactions :(
