Hello!

Any ideas for stopping my toddler taking every decoration off the tree?

  • Place it inside a playpen seems to be the best way

  • I’ve seen people post pictures of their tree designs on walls or upside down from the ceiling. Perhaps inside a playpen like others have suggested or have 2 – one for the adults and 1 that the kids can decorate themselves.

  • We put our tree inside a large playpen…

  • Pop the tree inside a small playpen :)

  • One year I put the tree inside a play pen and another year I can my 2 year old a small tree of his own to decorate and um decorate as he pleased.

  • I’ve put my tree in behind my sofa and moved the decorations higher so there’s no temptation. I’ve also bought a felt tree she can play with.

  • I used to put a barrier around our tree when the boys were young. It not only saved the tree being stripped of its ornaments, it also protected the boys from pulling the tree down on top of themselves.

  • Giving your toddler a little dish with the same ornaments in that’s on the tree- just a few but they have their special dish and the tree is to be left alone for everyone to just look at.

  • I don’t put the bottom layers on the tree. At least the bottom won’t be redecorated, hahha.

  • I give my toddler a mini tree to help themselves to decorate they aren’t being naughty just the excitement builds much like us when we are pleased it looks great

  • I little gate around the tree while they are still young. Or put objects in front of the tree so they can’t reach it.

  • This is going to happen. Are you able to put something around the tree like a baby pen to block them off from getting to it? Depending on the size of tree, are you able to put it up on a table or something, out of reach?

  • Distraction. Put a fence around it. Say no regularly. Reward not taking them off. Provide a small tree with their own baubles. Just a few ideas I went with!

  • Create some activities with their own decorations or give them a box of their own baubles to play with. My daughter loves playing with our but I don’t mind. It’s nice she is so excited about Christmas but she is 2

  • I had the exact same issue but I put up a play pen and my little man can see the tree but can’t get to the tree, I’m going to try taking it down in a few days to see if his interest in the baubles had calmed down.

  • Get a large puppy play pen from Kmart- put it around the tree. Stops puppies, deters cats and toddlers.

  • I used to allow my littlies to help decorate the tree and put their adornments on it with the promise that no-one will take them off till after Christmas. They made sure that each one of them left them alone. Worked a treat for me.

  • We used our Daughters playpen which was basically just a huge gate that you could connect the ends together to form a square.
You could also hang your tree from the ceiling upside down, I’ve seen that done.

  • I have seen old playpens put up around the xmas tree, stops kids and pets.

  • Baby gate around the tree or just let take it…I noticed my kids lost interest after few days.
