At ages 3 -4 y.o. one of ours was actually soiling her pants a bit when she passed wind. She didn’t even realise it was happening. We would notice the odours. She learnt to go to the toilet “just in case” if she could get there in time. We had trouble getting one of the boys to wipe himself properly.

What I did at age 5 and the undies were soiled, I asked my kids to scrub the undies before throwing them in the wash. This taught them to wipe their bum and go to the toilet on time if they didn’t want to scrub poo stained undies. I still do this regularly by my 9yaer old who frequently has her undies so soiled that you don’t want to add it to the washing machine. Now frankly she’s too lazy and has to experience that refusing to wipe her bum properly only causes her more work cause then she has to scrub. I know, I’m mean
