Hello!

How much TV do you think is too much? My 2 watch it a fair bit through the day, do you think it could be harmful? They are 3 1/2 & 5.

  • When my kids were younger they had a bit of tv in the morning and in the afternoon. Currently my kids are 18, 17, 12 1nd 8yrs old and no-one i9s watching tv in our house, except for my husband

  • I was super conservative about this, and I acknowledge that. But we do no TV during the week at all, and only a couple of hours on the weekend.

  • I think up to two hours of say ABC Kids is okay.

  • One of the important things is Don’t let your children sit or stand too close to the TV. The rays that emit from it can damage your eyes – it’s even worse for a baby or young child. I know a lad who suffered epileptic seizures. It was proved that they only occured when he sat too close to the TV or played computer games.

  • My kids had their set shows, which was approximately 1 hour after school. No TV before school. And they probably watched a little bit more on the weekends and holidays, but usually they were outside playing

  • Most children like to watch a lot of TV I think it’s normal.

  • I notice if my two year old watches too much TV (like two hours or more) I notice she is more grumpy and is hard to get her to go to sleep that night :) I try and limit to one hour or less :)

  • It is only recommended for kids to have 1 – 1&1/2 hours of screen time per day. I’m not uber strict with timing it but definitely encourage my kids to outdoors or imaginative play. I am guilty of using the TV during dinner preparation time to get them out of the kitchen and I’m sure my kids would probably have 2 or more hours of screen time at home and who knows how much they have at school with smartboards and the use of iPads etc.

  • I think the content is more important than the time.

  • My kids probably have more screen time than they should (between TV and computer), but I try to keep a balance to ensure they are not sitting for too long at a time and have regular breaks. They play a lot outside and TV is more of a wind down for the evening. I’m more worried about WHAT they’re watching. My 14 year old tries to sneak movies that are not suitable for our younger kids. At other times of day, my 2 year old watches ABC 4 Kids because it seems to have more sensible shows than some of the other cartoons on offer. (Her favourite is Play School).

  • mine watch the tablets way to much. they are zombies/ I feel bad but they do learn stuff from it and I can get my work done. everyone is different, as long as they are doing other stuff as well!

  • moderation! if they are still getting other stimulation and are pretty active, which kids that age are anyway, then it’s fine. i know that others will disagree but it is up to the individual. i use tv as a wind down tool sometimes

  • 2-4 hours but it all depends

  • too much tv is only a problem when it prevents kids from getting out side, as long as its kids shows they are watching it would have to be a lot to be harmful!

  • a couple hours a day is fine

  • I think a few hours a day is ok. Its hard to put a number on it but as long as they are getting a healthy amount of excersize

  • I don’t think so, we let ours watch it and they are bright intelligent children

  • i have a 3 and 6 yr old, we usually don’t have the tv on in the morning as i find they are more inclined to play or do other activities. after lunch, i let them watch around 1-2 hours (that’s the time i get my rest!). i also let my older daughter watch when she comes home from school. then no tv from 6pm unless it’s friday, our family movie night!

  • depends to what other things they do for the rest of the day, but i try not have them in front of tv for more then 2-3 hours a day

  • i allow 1 hour in the am and up to 2 in the afternoon
