Hello!

Does anyone know how long water lasts? I often fill and save water in the fridge and after a couple months if it’s not drunk, I think it might not be fresh and tip it out. Am I throwing out perfectly good water for drinking?

  • I’d tip on on the garden or pot plants before putting it down the sink but I always mangage to drink mine before it gets to that stage

  • What a great question and something I have wondered myself. I never knew water had a use by, but it apparently does

  • I would not drink water than has been standing for too long. I’d use it in the garden/pot plants instead.

  • If you are drinking 2litres of water a day you will be filling your bottle with clean water all the time

  • Water does have a use by. I’m the same. I replace the water in the fridge after so long. To avoid wastage, use it on your garden or pot plants

  • It is perfectly safe to drink (as long as the container it is in was clean when you originally filled it). It may taste a bit funny though. Just pop it on the garden if in doubt… it won’t hurt the plants and you’re not wasting it!

  • We drink our water so quickly we don’t bother with use by dates, through l agree give it to the plants if you aren’t sure!

  • Cool! Really interesting reading the comments to this!

  • I do the same. I think it starts to taste funny after being in the fridge for a while. Not sure if it’s off or not, but I throw it anyway, usually on the garden so it’s not completely wasted

  • I would think that it would be the taste of the water in the fridge that changes as the water absorbs the odours of the fridge. Why not water the garden with the water that you discard? At least it won’t be wasted.

  • I would use it for watering the plants in case the bottle gets slimy.

  • If it looks clean it should be fine, just make sure there is no slime in the bottle

  • Why doesn’t it get drunk in so long!? I would trust just tap water for that long, but if it was sales bottled water I think that’s different.

  • We can’t drink water if it’s left for too long – we normally water plants with old water.

  • yeah i agree that you should give it to the plants so as not to waste it

  • No use by date it’s in the fridge. If you feel unsure you plants will love it at room temp though.

  • i would like to change it weekly but we have to top it up everyday or two because everyone loves it

  • Good question!

  • I always thought it was 6 months if bottled, but I’m not 100% sure.

  • try to only keep as much water as you use regularly – like one bottle full and mark the date that you filled it
