Hello!

“So I was just reading my babies child health record and I noticed that it says no screen time (tv, phone etc) until 2 and a half years! Just wondering if anyone knows any effects of this are and when everyone let their kids start watching tv”

  • In moderation it should be fine .

  • My grandson has regular access to tv and now a tablet. He doesn’t spend all day on either as he usually rushes off to do something new he still spends most of his time outside, off of screens

  • My kids weren’t sitting still long enough for quality screen time til around the age of 6. They were too busy outside creating things. Thank goodness, the health benefits of playing outside far outweigh sitting in front if a screen

  • My daughter started watching shows like Play School when she was under one year of age and she has always been quite good at school. Whereas my brother refused to let his kids have any screen time until they were at least two, and his kids are behind academically. Personally, I think a little bit of screen time is okay.

  • Ugh I’m terrible and I have let my kid watch TV and use the iPad since she was 1 1/2..but I make sure it’s not for too long, it’s usually when I’m cooking tea or just need a break for 10 minutes!

  • no idea but my 5 month old already loves it. its not all that bad. my 3 yr old learns a lot from the tablet

  • there are some good comments here

  • What did you decide about screen time?

  • I actually haven’t seen that… and the child health nurse never mentioned it to me either.

  • I had no idea that they weren’t allowed screen time. Noticed on the news that they have bought out a new baby rocker that has an ipad attached to it for them to play with.

  • I hope you found the answer your looking for

  • What did you decide on starting screen time?

  • There are many reasons to limit screen time, children do best when they are able to engage with others and their environment as these things are interactive- tv tends to encourage passivity.

  • There are some great answers here.

  • Never heard of that before. Mine started looking as soon as they could see that far. They turned out fine.

  • I didn’t know about this…

  • I did hear twelve months of age and on. Everything in moderation of course.

  • Watching TV from one year is ok but on abc 2 children program obviously.

  • My little man watches tv about 10-20 mins each day. A baby under 2 doesn’t need it !

  • I think it comes down more to what they are engaging in and for how long- ten minutes on a tablet every now and then isnt going to kill them!
