For many gifted children, grade acceleration is beneficial. Students are placed in classes where they are truly challenged and with peers more on their intellectual level. But, for some children, skipping a grade can be harmful to their social and emotional development.

Yes chat with her teacher. Nowadays they give harder work to the smarter children and teach at different levels at primary and high school. It should be possible to accommodate your child at her own level.

This is something that has to be discussed with her teachers.

oooh hard to say. you would have to talk to the school. i thought that kid’s skipped grades based on a principal/teacher invite.

See what the teacher suggests. It would be hard for your daughter to settle in with the older kids, all the little cliques would have formed. If she’s already doing the next years level of work, I would consider leaving her where she is

as much as she may be more developed in school work before even considering skipping I would ensure she is socially and psychologically prepared to move up a grade. Then approach the school to discuss – there is a process but it is possible at anytime.

It depends on what your school offers for children such as yours – I would discuss options with your school and go from there. If you are seriously looking at skipping a grade, I would have thought sooner rather than later would be best – again talk to your school and potential alternative schools.

I think it’s something you should discuss with the teacher. Don’t they have any special “Advanced” or “Challenge” classes in your school?
