Hello!

I would love to know what awesome things you have purchased at a garage sale, an op shop, or a market? Have you found something you totally fell in love with or something worth way more than you paid? I find this super interesting and cannot wait to hear!

  • I bought a pretty ceramic vase. I don’t know if it’s worth more, but I like it.

  • I found a 1930s bowl that was my grandmothers then she handed it down to my mum and Now i have it

  • I bought this picture decades ago from a second hand shop for about $25. No idea if its worth anything but I loved it. Phar Lap winning the 1930’s Melbourne Cup.

  • A coloured vase that is very pretty.

  • I have bought many quality items such as clothing and boots that are in excellent condition and cost so little, also gorgeous vases which l love!

  • I found a 100 yo Cupid photo ,absolutely beautiful at an Antique shop sale,he had ripped it out of original frame & was selling the frame for more I bought the photo.

  • They are good for finding great things. Books, lamps and toys have been found!

  • yes i find bargains on ebay au. it is a great site.

  • I find this fascinating too but I’ve never found any bargains myself. I have had a couple of good buys off eBay. Does that count?

  • So many great finds over the years, one of the best buys if I ever decided to sell off in the future was a Delft Cow creamer for $0.25 at a church fete that was worth around 50 pound last time I checked. Though often my favourite buys are the pieces I re purpose into something else. Have to say I’m surprised this post has not had many response yet, it’s something that interests me highly as well and would have though many others.

  • We certainly did back then, we used it on our double bed for many years until we needed our queen size bed but we still use it in our guest room. We can’t part with it, as it is such a lovely antique piece & a great find all those years ago.

  • ASHBLONDE-you got a wonderful brass bed bargain! :)

  • My hubby bought our brass bed head from a second hand dealer who had it in a chook pen in the country years ago for $10.00. We still have it in our guest bedroom & have had many people interested in buying it over the years. Someone’s trash has turned out to be our treasure.

  • I love the idea of shifting through markets etc for special finds but I’ve found I’m not really comfortable with garage sales and some op shops. Although in saying that they are ok in some places and my best find was a pair of DC jeans for my son $5 for a pair that would normally cost $50

  • I love op shops in little towns and my best buy is my favourite buy-a beautiful original print in a spectacular frame. The picture cost me $20 and in shop would have cost $100’s. I love the print and the memory of buying it at a little seaside town at a charity shop run by some lovely elderly ladies warms my heart. I have also scored many other bargains! It is such fun! :)

  • no i don’t really go to the sales because i have littlies that make it hard to go early enough for the bargains. but one man’s trash is another man’s treasure

  • I did! I bought this beautiful wooden vase for $5. Underneath there was still the original price: $129.90! :-) It’s 35 cm tall and it looks absolutely new!
