Hello!

My son is 3 1/2 and has been more or less toilet trained since he was 3. He has just started kindy this year, and for the first couple of weeks he was maybe a little damp on occasion (little leak, maybe a drip or two), but nothing I was particulaly concerned about. However, over the last couple of weeks he has been coming home drenched in wee (having wet through his clothes, plus the backup changes of clothes I pack in his school bag). He is still enjoying kindy (he gets sad when it’s not kindy day!), so I think it’s more a him being distracted rather than an anxiety thing. But I’m concerned that it’s happening at all, especially to such a degree. I am going to talk to his teachers, but want to know if anyone has found the same thing with their children and how long it went on for and if there are any pointers or tips I might be able to implement to help him out. Thanks in advance for any and all advice!

  • Another idea is to ask his teachers to toilet time him (bring him to the toilet at set times).

  • Don’t you worry mumma, this is very common ! He will get there. Nothing wrong with talking to the teachers and when they see he’s restless or holding his bladder they could encourage him to visit the toilet. My 6yr old has also more accidents at school as she gets distracted and want to play and probably doesn’t have the trust relationship with the teacher and teacher aid to communicate her need to go.

  • i have a four year old boy he has been trying the toilet training . he started then he stop is that normal . plus i have try the stickers too but he forget to tell me toilet time cause he is too busy to go is that normal

  • yeah i think that he just doesn’t want to miss out on the fun! remind him that he has to do pees every now and then and he will feel better while he is playing

  • I think you just need to encourage his toilet training a bit more. Keep him really busy but remind him he needs to go to the toilet.
The teachers at kindy say they get too busy and forget to go or they dont want to miss something or stop playing.
You might need to tell him that at school you need to do wees in the toilet like a big boy.
Normally the teachers will let you know if he isnt ready for kindy and might suggest to keep him home
goodluck, its very hard. I have twins in kindy and one has accidents every now and then because he is busy. I told him you have to use the toilet or your not allowed to go to kindy and thats helped as he doesnt want to miss out on going to kindy
