That pet insurance was a thing

Your neighbours may not want your new pet in their space, or even like cats. So be aware that cats should stay inside and/or be in a contained caged area outside so that they don’t bother the rest of the community, kill native birds, spread disease and generally cause a nuisance.

One of our cats always would eat grass outside and then vomit all over the carpet inside. The other two cats once grown would scratch furniture and us and nearly attack us when it was feeding time.

They all have different personalities and you have to be strict with them if they do something naughty you address it straight away, if they start scratching furniture you get a spray bottle with water and if they ignore you saying no squirt it and say no. They can be work and you have to change their litter tray regularly as they are a very clean animal and a freshly cleaned litter tray is the way to go. My cat I cut her nails to stop her scratching me and also the furniture you buy the special sissors for cats and be careful how much you take off. Now with all the new rules a enclosed cat yard is the way to go so they can play in it especially if you put toys in there for them. My cat likes to sit on my lap at night and she likes to be brushed so if you start brushing when they are you then they except it and enjoy the attention. Also remember to worm them regularly and treat for fleas and take for their vaccinations also get sterilised when old enough and they can be so good for a child to have a pet and give them chores to do like feeding and making sure it has fresh water.

If you get a kitten you have to remember that they could be a responsibility for 10 + years. You need a litter tray. Always put your kitten on it as soon as it wakes up and after feeds. There are some litter tray products that last a longer without “smelling” than others do. You can sprinkle carb soda in the bottom it to help lessen the smell. A 3 month old kitten should have been vaccinated and wormed by now. Can you get information from its previous owner? We have always had our pets (cats or dogs) neutered. Less risk of “unexpected” ones and both sexes of cats tend to stay in their own yard. Kittens (and adult cats too) can get up to mischief and be quite destructive. If you can’t get them to be obedient after being told a few times and moved away from what they aren’t supposed to be touching or going where you don’t want them to, trying putting some water in a spray bottle and spray them in or near their face. It’s a good deterrent with dogs too. By law cats must be kept inside at night. If you don’t want them in the house, or perhaps are enclosed carport or a shed you will have to put them in an enclosure. If you have it as an inside cat, maybe train it to wear a harness and lead. I know somebody who has trained a cat. The handle of the lead is put around a tap handle where the cat can be in shade or sunshine. It is better than the cat getting outside and being run over or escaping and get lost. I know somebody who has done that since the kitten arrived at their home. He can reach the front door and meow loudly when he wants to go back inside. You may be able to do it in your back yard. On occasion he has stood where his gear and meowed so obviously he loves it. Some cats love curling up in boxes, including when the top or bottom are removed and the box laid on one side. One I know of has a fetish for boxes. Put a new one on the floor and he will find it within minutes.

This week we just got two new kittens…….I made sure they were toilet trained so it would be easier on us. They are work as you have to clean up after them numerous times a day, feed them, play with them, brush them and buy numerous cute things for them!

It can hide anywhere, under any thing!

Thats so cute, love baby animals . We adopted a baby rabbit nealry 2 years ago when we found it iin our backyard !. Saying that, a frien dof mine love cats and used to have 6 of them . She said they are very clean pets as they lick and wash themselves. However I would still try to bath them while they are little so they get used to water ( my opinon). She said thung that she found most expensive is the Cat Litter as like our rabbit you need to change it regularly as it will smell quite unpleasant if you don’t clean their area.
Take him to a Vet for a checkup and I am sure they will advise you further . Have fun with your new pet.

That my son and husband were highly allergic. We had the cat before my son and had no idea the eczema all over his body was being triggered by the cat. I am so grateful I was able to rehome her. Definitely allergy testing all our kids before contemplating another pet.

They are addictive and time wasters just like babies

I wish I knew I was allergic to cats before Nan bought the kids a kitten

We had a stray kitten around the same age and we wished we knew that they scratch alot (you and furniture), they don’t always cover their poo in the kitty litter, and they benefit from lots of attention.

The thing to remember is that a kitten is just like a child – they don’t understand the rights and wrongs and, unlike a puppy/dog, cannot be trained in many areas …. use plenty of at litter trays and provide them with plenty of toys and scratching posts and hope for the best! If you really don’t have patience and are really houseproud, an older cat would be better but, having said that, any kitten or cat makes a house a home and your perseverance will pay off with unconditional love and company!

Our kitten ruined all of our furniture!
We bought her a scratching pole, toys and house with a huge scratching pole and doesn’t use any of it.
She has ruined the lounge and dining room chairs and even started with the bed head that we’ve kicked her out of our room and is no longer allowed in there!

This is one of the reasons I refuse to get pets!

We are determined to keep our kitten/cat inside to protect the wildlife in our area.

All kitten are different, just like all babies are different. I had once 2 young kittens who really were some rascals; scratching the leather settee’s & wall paper, throwing the plants out of the window sill, climbing the counter etc. We decided on a certain moment to keep them outside.
