  • With subscription services like netflix you can also see movies similar to others they have (and which other viewers have watched), so can find good recommendations via their data analysis. I’m sure there are other websites too which can help you find movies / series similar to others you’ve enjoyed. I once googled the best 50 action movies and made an effort to watch the ones I had access to, just a bit of fun!

  • It so depends on what you enjoy. I have found imdb to be a great source of assessing the rating on dvd movies, since they are given a score out of 10 by viewers and the average is displayed. But standards vary across genres. For action/drama any rating greater than6.0 is generally a good movie but for science fiction even a 7/10 is often disappointing. Dramas start to look good at even a 5.0. I don’t really like comedies, and often the best scoring is disappointing but depends on your sense of humour. Hope you find something you enjoy!

  • It depends on the ages of course too. As well as local libraries and Cash Converters, I look out on eBay for good condition box sets, where seller has watched them once or twice and now has Netflix. I got the box sets of House, Medium, and some series of CSI. My kids (and I, i admit it!) love the dvds of Bluey. As I’m a child from the 70s I’ve enjoyed the box set of the original WonderWoman – great blast from the past for the decor and fashions too! My boys now want to be wonderwoman, Lynda Carter style! Golden Girls is a great box set too, though the final series is a bit average.

  • The Walking Dead or The Good Place.

  • Terrible name but Schitts Creek is actually a fabulous series for adults. Very funny and a GREAT message for everyone out there.
My kids are into the Jumanji movies at the moment

  • Old classic is definitely Friends or Sienfeild.

  • Harry Potter and Vampire Diaries

  • Thanks for the answers and the suggestions. :) I do source the library and other stores for DVDs etc. I also source then from charity shops too. Always keen to get suggestions and recommendations and find new places to get DVDs.

  • You can borrow from Libraries now a lot. I have stacks and people seem to rather get Netflix or Stan for movies, also depends what you like to watch. I now use Netflix I get lots to choose from.

  • I am looking for recommendations for all ages across the family, young and old. :)

  • Depends on your interests, really – but I enjoyed “True Blood”, “Boston Legal” and “Suits” to name three.

  • My toddler has a set of Wiggles DVDS which she never gets sick of!
    Also, Shaun the sheep.

  • For older kids: High School Musical and Descendants

  • What age group and gender are you looking for ?
