Hello!

What experience have other mums had with their childcare? Such as, do they prefer 2 – 6 years combined group learning or separate 2-3, 3-4;, 4-5 group learning. I have found a few places that share same room for all ages in long day care, just not sure if it’s a good thing for the older ones?

  • Ive never come across one that shares the same room all day, but many will share a yard which I think is fine with adequate supervision. But I wouldnt want them sharing a room all day.

Gotta say there are some ridiculous comments on here. Why post just for the sake of saying you dont like childcare and dont use it. Its not what was asked. Start your own thread instead!

  • We have used two different ones. We moved house and the new childcare centre (it opened only recently) is in the same company group – staff were transferred so there was one or two the kids in the areas had met.. They were all in small age group size and separate rooms. Our youngest went 2 days a week. He advanced quicker than he was when home all the time. Some good ones have a waiting list. He learnt to interact with children his own age, started to talk more and clearer.

  • I like the 1-2, 2-3, 3-4, 4-5 set up at my childcare. It allows a nice transition between rooms and each age group gets age-specific attention.

And should the carers do the same thing (ie the same Christmas card) each year then the kids wont ever know!

  • I don’t think being around younger kids has any detrimental effect on kids, it actually would promote more social awareness if anything. But upon saying this you need to do what feels right for your kids.

  • Can’t say I’ve found the age thing to be a problem but my day care is fantastic

  • there are some good comments here

  • I think a mixture of groups is actually best, it promotes acceptance

  • What did you end up doing for childcare ?

  • I myself definitely prefer separate groups!

  • what did you end up doing?

  • I prefer smaller groups more focussed on the childs ages with different activities for them

  • Hope some of the advice below has been helpful

  • What did you end up doing?

  • Hope you have found a place the suits your needs.

  • I never liked child care! Only tried it twice and would never take my daughter bak

  • I wouldn’t put my daughter in a child care with older kids.
So can be very rough and 2 years olds can’t stand up for them self yet.
