Hello!

My kids are all in school now, we moved interstate, kids made friends and settled into school but I’m alone. I can only do so much housework, cleaning and shopping. I don’t have many friends yet, that I can spontaneously meet for a coffee and I don’t have a hobby. Tell me your ideas, hobbies or me time activities please so I don’t feel so useless.

  • I love reading, drawing, painting, knitting, crocheting, sewing, gardening

  • I actually just came to read the comments on this one because I don’t have any hobbies either. My youngest is still at home but not for much longer so I’ve been thinking about trying to find something just for me. You get so used to having no time to yourself that you forget what you actually like doing lol.

  • I do jigsaw puzzles, read books, renovate the house and review products online in my free time.

  • I sew, I’m learning crochet and I love Lyra (a circus sport)

  • When we had the first lockdown I started doing jigsaw puzzles and when finished I swap them with others and them with me and we take photos of the finished product to share.

  • I do gem art, colouring in, study subjects of interest and reading

  • Hobbies completely depends on individual tastes and interests. I like to read so I spend a lot of my free time reading novels. I know people who are involved in gardening, volunteering with a not for profits, candle making, knitting. You can find what appeals to you and connect with your local community groups or virtual group on FB.

  • I am a full on nanna nerd!
I do things like pen palling, cross stitch and scrapbooking.
I don’t have much time to do any of those things at the moment as I have a newborn but if I could stay home instead of going back to work when my mat leave runs out those are the things I’d definitely be doing.
I spend so much money at spotlight, it’s not funny.

  • I use free online courses to keep myself entertained. I also ask workmates to send me reports to proof read.
I also play soccer, and do a little sewing, knitting and crocheting at times.

  • I like doing different things I used to like going to the gym trying to keep fit and used to walk a lot and I taught myself to crochet and did quite a few blankets for the kids they loved them. I went to learn Thi chi and yoga wasn’t any good with yoga I learnt paper tole and gardening joined a garden club and played bamington so lots to do if you fancy doing I even volunteered at a welfare place there is lots if you want to venture out and meet people and do something you just have to make your choice.

  • i work full time and am a survivor of an abusive relationship which left me raising twin babies plus a toddler solo. I have no time per se, but think about what time i do have, differently. So i listen to podcasts or crochet on my daily commute into the city. when my kids are playing ( fighting) in the garden, it gives me a chance to garden. I also take photographs , since i dont have the time or energy to paint …. and i use the kids toys to make sculptures. I miss being able to read loads, also sleep, i miss that . Good luck!

  • I like to read but since becoming a mum my eyesight has deteriorated which makes it very hard to focus

  • I’m a stay at home mum, my 20 month old doesn’t go to pre school yet as there isn’t one close by to where we live. I get 2 hours (at most, which is rare) to myself each week day. In that time, if I don’t clean or do any other house work I really enjoy painting. On weekends, when little one is sleeping my partner and I either like to fiddle with things around the house or relax and watch a movie together.
I also like to go walking (which is never kid free), but you could try bike riding, or look on social media for a local women’s group in your community. Some community halls hold different kinds of classes, which you could attend.

  • I like spending time in garden and doing things there or just making small projects on my sewing machine…and cleaning and reorganising my home

  • I learnt how to make soap from scratch, now I also make lush style bath bombs, body lotions, lip balm. (prior to covid, I had turned into a business but have given it a break for a while) I also learnt to cook a lot from scratch. I used to love yoga and I read. I tend to read more than anything else now, at least I can come back to that if I get interrupted or have only a small amount of time.

  • Another idea is to try out new interests and hobbies on trial days. Some places have trials days before committing to a new interest/hobby.

  • I enjoy reading and learning new skills that I can do at home, like knitting. Are you interested in meeting people with a new hobby? There may be lots of local classes and groups you could do during school hours. I’d love to join art classes one day.

  • I took up gardening. Not only can you make your garden beautiful but you can grow vegetables and get involved with your local community and swap excess produce with neighbours

  • Thank you for all the ideas and suggestions

  • I’ve bee. Loving tarot cards
