Hello!

“My daughter is 3 and we have decided we would finally get her ears pierced. She is happy about the chance to have ‘pretty ears like mummy’ and I have explained the procedure to her so she knows it will hurt a little bit. We never pierced them earlier as she used to scratch and grab her ears a lot as a bub. My question is has anyone gotten their kids ears pierced at this age and found it to be very painful and have regretted it as I’m told the younger the better. Thanks in advance.”

  • It’s a risk doing it while she’s still young enough to be putting small objects in her mouth, especially if she might fiddle with the earrings and wind up swallowing one of them.

  • I usually pierce my kids ear when they’re about 12weeks, and I feel the pain and healing is better experience at that age than when their much older.

  • My girl hasn’t got hers yet but I think if she wants them then get them.

  • My mum pierced my ears at 6 months of age, so I don’t remember it.

  • My daughter is very headstrong and demanded at just over 2 to have them pierced, I explained it would hurt and they would need to be bathed and that would hurt, she sat in the chair, had them done and did not flinch!!. she went back about 12 mnths later and had a second one put in each ear, she then had to have several operations at 4 and 5 and was very ill, they took her ear rings out and I have never managed to get her to wear them again, she is now an adult and no longer has them pierced. I find it disappointing as I have many extremely expensive ear rings that I was hoping that she would be able to use but she has told me that she will never have them pierced again, so each to their own, let them make their own decision, some can do it at 2 some need to be 12, mind you she now has 2 small tattoos and claimed she was getting more, but never has, I think she has an aversion to pain, LOL

  • I was 10 when I got mine done and had continual infections in them so now as an adult I don’t wear them.

  • I’ve been wondering this myself, thanks for posting… I have twin girls turning 3 in a month and they are always asking about earrings. Just not sure if it would end badly especially since they go to day care

  • 2YO is o,k

  • It would hurt and just make sure she understnands she has to be careful with them.

  • our lot got done early before 1 and they were fine and now have no worries at all, the older kids that waited had more problems and it tended to hurt more

  • Not sure what the best age to pierce ears but I did it when i was 7 years old.

  • Be prepared for tears when it hurts her, but she’ll soon forget about the pain when she has the excitement of choosing new ear-rings. 3 or 4 years of age is fine to get them done, if she want it.

  • Definitely when they are happy and want them I know a few little girls in this age group that had it done and they had no problems/ regrets afterwards

  • When they are old enough to ask for them. My daughter is 4 and still hasn’t asked for hers to be done.

  • I think the best age to pierce ears is when they want them done.

  • Just my opinion, but I wouldn’t be doing it until she’s old enough to understand and want them herself.

  • how did you go? :)

  • It is up to you really as you know best whether your daughter will look after them once pierced to stop infection. My little one still grabs at her ears so I am not looking at getting hers done yet but a lot of the little girls in her swimming classes have their ears pierced (they are a little bit older than her).

  • Hope all is well since getting her ears pierced

  • How did she go with getting her ears pierced ?
