I’m not Victoria so don’t know what’s normal there… But I got offered a lot, it was a matter of following it up myself though. Birthing classes etc were optional but details were given so we could go and they were free.
After I got a few visits but was also told I could drop into the community center anytime for me or bub. They recommended a 6 week check with with the doctor for both me and bub.. So get your friend to get her stitches checked there. Hope she can find places for support… A playgroup might be a good start too?

This is interesting as I have a 2nd cousin who is 6 months pregnant who lives in Vic.

The nurse attended twice after all 3 of my c sections and each time asked how I was healing and took a peek. Also asked how the pain was. She said pain has a lot to do with depression – which I didn’t have – but each health nurse was a different person and I thought that must be the standard?

yes you are given advice and pamphlets. they advise you to go for doctor check-ups and you are supposed to do your six week mum check-up before you start “getting busy” again lol.

My friend is in North Western suburbs of Melbourne. The clinic have been great with Bub, but not so supportive with mum. This pregnancy was also classed high risk and through the public system.
The hospital did not make any recommendations regarding pre and post natal classes.
I feel helpless as my child was born in NSW and almost 14 years ago, the system has changed so much with all the different scans and so many more hospital visits rather than GP.

Wow, that suprises me greatly. I’m in Victoria and had the choice of prenatal classes. Also the obsetrician checked me after my daughter was born about 5 weeks after. I had a midwife come to the house to check us both. We also went to the maternal health nurse.

I believe it depends on her hospital booking. Most public hospitals these days will offer parenting classes & her doctor/midwife will help with pre & post natal check ups.
