We have a chipoo ( chihuahua x toy poodle) and a groodle ( golden retriever x poodle) and they are both amazing. Beautiful natures and they don’t shed ( because of the poodle in them) but you do need to get them clipped in summer.
We had a beautiful labrador. He was so gentle, but labradors are on the large side. I also like the beagle breed. They are a mid sized dog, very intelligent, and good with children.
I’d be thinking about how much yard you have for the dog to roam around in. Do you need to take it out each day to exercise. Do you want an inside dog or an outside dog. Who is going to take care of the dog. Is the dog going to be left alone for most of each day. etc etc.
Go to your local dogs home, they have so many loving dogs looking for a forever home. You pay a small fee (no matter what the breed, you pay the same small fee) and they’re temperament tested, vaccinated, wormed, neutered and microchipped. Plus you know they haven’t come from one of those horror show puppy farms….unless they were rescued from one.
ive found that staffys or pitbulls are incredible with kids!
we have both an english staffy and an american pitbull and they are the best baby sitters. though they have both been around bubs since she was born so were brought up with her i wouldnt think twice about getting one again!
It really does depend on your lifestyle and activities. The RSPCA and other similar sites have pet checkers. You can enter your details about your lifestyle and activities and can be matched up to a dog. Might be worth checking? Dogs love people and can be trained to be good family pets and members of the family. They are social animals and need plenty of attention and love. Good luck with researching and finding a new family member. Pet shelters and rescue shelters are always good options too. My lovely rescue pooches came from rescue shelters and are just the most beautiful dogs-but they needed lots of TLC and good training.
We have Maltese/Poodles, they don’t shed and are very very clean.
They adore my little one and never hurt him when he pulls their hair and climbs all over them.

Is when we trained them not to touch the babies stuff, but they were so protective they wanted to sleep next to him so they would get as close as they could without touching his stuff… so sweet!
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are an absolute delight and revel in attention. I would however seek out the local RSPCA or other animal organisation and they will best be able to match your family with an ideal pet.
Golden retriever and labs are fantastic with kids but are on the bigger side.
Cavaliers are lovely so are poodl. all will require training and excercise. unless you get a dog that is already trained.
Poodles are great as already mentioned for not shedding
I always recommend cavalier King Charles spaniels. I’ve never known a grumpy one and they are good house dogs. They do shed a bit though.
But probably best to go check out some local shelters for adult dogs. They are usually better with the kids and even saves a lot of training!
